Assistance In Building A DIY 300B Tubeamp
Have anyone build a diy point-to-point 300B tubeamp that can share notes with me?
This is my first-experience in building a tube amp, but I have prior experience in building DIY solid-state amps, pre-amps, tube-buffer, etc. and getting them to work. However, they are all based on PCBs which makes soldering and connections that much easier.
In this case, I have also acquired a PCB design for JE Labs 300B monoblock, but I am contemplating a point-to-point project; which which would be new to me. I have also acquired almost all the parts for this project to get-going.
Pls PM or contact me on 012 223 6517. Tx

Not 300B but I have just completed my first tube preamp based on the 5687 tube and 6X4 rectifier(diyparadise version), built using point to point. It is much much different (but simpler) when compared to solid state projects based on pcbs! I learnt a lot about humming, buzzing and hissing! Nonetheless it was really satisfying when I got it to work. Now I know why some audiophiles just stick to tube amplification.
Having done some search and reading, the 300B is an interesting project which I am considering next.. maybe I'll join you too.

Practical experience in DIY is always useful. Having other DIY kakis on the same project would be excellent.
Give me a call if you are keen to start this project.

what design u plan to follow ? my advise is don waste time on PCB, just do it point to point, 300B is not complicated anyway. tube design always sounds better in point to point. just get a promising circuit, plan ur grounding scheme n follow some basic layout rules,ie: one point grounding, input output in different location, trannie must not close to input..etc. cheers & good luck ! you can PM me if you encounter any problem during cosntruction, I am willing to see if I can help .

I have parts enough to build both the JE Labs 300B monoblocks, and WE 91A (except OPT where I have only a pair of Hammond OPT that I bought from one of the guys). I may opt for another brand (looking at Tamura 5002) if I can get the first DIY working. Both designs have equally low part counts.
Tx for the offer and would certainly get in touch with you when I hit a brick wall.

Re: Assistance In Building A DIY 300B Tubeamp
About RM3,500 and counting. The cost is inclusive of the JJ 300B tubes (single most expensive item), Hammond OPT (thanks to WongKN), Mundorf Silver Oil coupling caps, Kiwame and Riken resistors, JJ electrolytes, Solen decoupling caps, bare chassis, power transformer and inductors.
Have not include wood work and metal spray painting for the chassis yet, and still missing some minor parts but they should not cost much.
It would work out to be more expensive that a China made tube amp (have a Yaqin 300B with NOS tubes) - but I can't resist doing a 300B diy - at least once.
