CD Jewel Cases

Post by llsaw on Mon Dec 07, 2009 1:06 pm

All,

Where can I buy empty cd jewel cases only? I only need for single cd as a lot of the CDs I ordered from Amazon have cracked cases when I received them thanks to rough handling. Popular only does cd cases for double cd and these are non-interchangeable with the stock cd cases. I previously ordered some super cd jewel cases from eBay but this cost a bomb!

Try Low Yat if you are in KL. The last time I bought, it was priced at RM 1 each. Going there next month if you need some let me know.

As mentioned Popular only does cd cases for double cd and these are non-interchangeable with the stock cd cases. I can't even use the back casing as it won't fit the stock single disc insert.

I bought my own stock from a used music dealer in KL. Its sold in quantity of 100pcs and I gather its supplied to the local music industry. That could mean there are local manufacturers for this item. Pity you're in Penang, far away, otherwise I could try ask that dealer to see if stocks are still available. Since its in that quantity, its much cheaper than Rm1 each. I've not bought any for quite sometime, since I've minimized buying used cd's to almost zilch.

Perhaps we can do a sharing? I'm ok to take 25-50 cases. Beats importing them @ crazy prices from overseas.

Hi Artesuano,

As mentioned earlier I'm from Penang. Have not seen any Victoria Music branches in Penang. All we have is Popular Cd Rama (in a sad state) and Artist Gallery. Tower Records went chap lap earlier this year and likewise Borders Cd/Music section. I buy 80% of my cds now via web. Sad isn't it?

I'll check with the dealer later on and see if any's easily available and what price. Meanwhile, I've no intention to buy any as I've still got my stash for future use for digital transfers from vinyl LP.
The first box I bought many years ago (which I still have some left) was of superb quality in plastic quality thickness. I bought a 2nd box (half left I think) and noticed it was thinner plastic and a little more flexible, nevertheless, still useable. I wasn't entirely happy but its already bought, so I continued to use them whenever, mostly for CDR's from digital transfers. I suspected the manufactured skimmed on quality to some extent. Thats my story for now.

llsaw: meanwhile perhaps you could privately request your music shop to obtain some (no harm asking mah! and still business for them) or even Popular Bookstore (at Komtar?)

The one selling at pirate shop are of low quality which are very easy break. I wonder are there any shop which they sell high quality like the cd you buy from US label which had black tray. In Singapore they do have those of high quality jewel case which I get to know from fellow echoloft forum but that is way back last 2 year.

Sorry if OT. Uncle vic...I play a load of half a thousand mp3's ripped and compiled all in a nice neat 8GB Kingston pendrive permanently jacked into my low fi car stereo, which have this USB facility along with bluetooth. Yep, not to the highest fidelity anyone can argue, but purely with great convenience in practice. No more CD's inside the car.

Take note that those ciggie lighter FM transmitter plugins can only do mono. No stereo but no prob for low-fi car use i suppose.

Price is ~RM4 for premium quality cd case including shipping. Cheaper if you order in larger quantities. Will update on quality, et. when I get it.

Hi joydivision,

You are welcome. How much they sell it to you per piece. I bought 200pcs at 48 cent each & if you buy 100pcs, the price will be 52 cent each which is still very cheap compare to those CD shops selling at RM1.00.

Hey Artesuano,

I was told they just increased the price on 1st of Mar. Lol Anyway the new price is about 55 cents (black tray) and 58 cents (transparent tray) if I remember correctly. The price quoted was for 100 pcs of each type. Did you purchase them cd cases before 1st of Mar? And were they black or transparent trays?
