Any Good Classical Music Album

Post by ARTESUANO on Tue Nov 10, 2009 11:20 am

Hi There,

Anyone know any good classical music to recommend. I like mostly symphony orchestra & want to know under what label & conductor to chose from because there are so many of them. I know a few like Karajan, Karl Bohm, Paderewski & Jascha Heifetz but under which label should I choose from (RCA, EMI, TELARC, DECCA or any independence label).

Thanks.

Hi, ARTESUANO.

I think you already have some of the CDs I mentioned in my list:
1) Beethoven 6 from Karl Bohm.
2) Beethoven 5 and 7 from Carlos Kleiber.

My favorite violinists are Frit Kreisler, Jascha Heifetz, Joseph Szigeti, David Oistrakh, Nathan Milstein, Yehudi Menuhin and Arthur Grumiaux.

For Heifetz, you could collect all his concerto recordings by RCA Living Stereo.
You already have his Tchaikovsky and Brhams.
Don't miss his Beethoven and Mendelssohn.
The rest are Bach (Double Violins), Mozart (Simphonia Concertante), Brahms (Double Concerto), Sibelius, Vieuxtemps (no 5), Bruch (no 1 and Scottish Fantasy), Prokofiev (no 2) and Glazunov.

best regards

Hi 2A3,

I like the way Heifetz play violin, very energetic & lively. I know some of his album which are very good ( under RCA label ) but hard to get unless I get it in amazon or ebay but very expensive. Also his Beethoven and Mendelssohn you mention which I heard the sample from amazon.com which are equally impress. May I know where you get your cd because I notice a lot of local music store no more or hardly can find any label like RCA & Deutsche Grammophon.

Hi, ARTESUANO.

Yes, I like Heifetz works but not his Bach.
For Bach's 6 Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin, I still prefer Szegeti and Milstein.

I got most of my Classical Music CDs from overseas.

Both. Bought in overseas and also online purchase.

I do not know about the Gala Stradivarius Concert.
A CD for Stradivari's strings?

Yep. It a live concert whereby they only use Stradivarius violin to play (stradivarius violin cost a few million dollar & only about 1100 pieces been make by famous Antonio Stradivari. But only about 700 are still exist till today). For this concert , they borrow it from private collector. One of the well known violinist who own it is Joshua Bell.

Hi, ARTESUANO.

I see.
If I am not mistaken, Heifetz was using Stradivarius violin also called "Dolphin".
And now, Akiko Suwanai is using it.

Hi ARTESUANO,

Max Bruch Violin Concerto 1 is one of my favourite VCs. Never fails to move me. Have Cd's of other violinist playing this VC but Heifetz is my favourite as well. I have this album on vinyl and just bought a Living Stereo SACD/CD this morning for about RM70. Good buy.

I am not in the country and if you are interested PM me. Will keep an eye open for another at this price.

regards.
