Re: home audition
In my opinion, I do not think home audition will help us much as most of the equipment need run in / burn in period. It's best to listen at dealer's demo unit as the equipment may have had burned in. If talking about home audition for speaker, it took lots of time, effort, trial and error before one can find the 'correct/ideal' postion.

TNB quite efficient. They came about 15-20mins after we called them. It is all good now.
I do hope that you enjoy the brief audition of the HT system. Our friend did not have such luck to test out Krell. Maybe next time.

Or if your speaker alignment is not good, a set of my special custom made camber kit will solve all your speaker alignment problems !
Or your CD player not tracking those bits with enuff grip ? Hows about adding a SuperBit GT-wing to it ! Newly in stock just arrived! Guarantee sure chun-chun one !
Mr Loud Boomy Boom Boom actually requested me to lug the gigantic sub to Penang to do a home demo for him to 'listering Hindi songs loud loud boomy boom boom'. NO WAY!
Can always just record a session for him and email/Youtube to him.
Maybe can recommend some upgrade along the way, turbo boost for Subwoofer for faster respond, camber alignment to enhance speaker toe-in, strut bar for cdp stabilisation or tinting to reduce UV up to 99%... hahaha

Need 'refueling' of cash
Re: home audition
First of all ,Let me say a big thank you for the moderators for coming forward and declare -it is refreshing step forward.
I must also confess that I have spent most of my life abroad;I of course come back every year ,and feel the need to contribute to the 'hi-fi' movements here..
Having said that ,I have found that while the Audiophiles community are an impressive bunch-some very knowladgable folks around with equally impressive systems to boot;the same cannot be said about the dealers, they are almost the same kind I use to meet in Pertama complex ,only thelook and names has changed.
There are many dealers in Audiogon and Audio Asylums-they are after all audiophiles first;I cannot comprehend their recluse behaviour here...
Likewise i cannot ,for the life of me,understand their logic, for declining home auditions;Hey How many people allow you to their homes these days.So much marketing informations can be gain, access to their customers lifestyles, preferances etc...and of course giving them the best set-up advise to make sure the demoed items are properly setup..These are priceless
I think it sum up our mentality as malaysians;everything must be calculated in Dollars and cents..

Re: home audition
well, maybe in all your time spent overseas more than locally... you just haven't come across the local really hifi-audiophile dealers who are just as nutty & eccentric if not anything.
But don't worry, you are not alone. There's another local chap who despite claiming to be an "old uncle" in the hifi game, but has also never met true hifi-audiophile dealers till lately also. But at least you've been abroad, whereas that chap just kinda stuck around in his boom-boom batcave with a multitude of home hacked subwoofers ... the last we heard.
So cheers, all's well at least on your end!
BTW, if u are ever keen to go meet a real local hardcore dealer-audiophile in person, just drop a PM to the moderators .... I'm pretty sure they'd point you to the same guy in mind.

Perhaps to qualify your statement ... home demos do happen locally , but only if you have some sort of rapport with the dealer in question. Otherwise, given the local mentalities of local buyers in Bolehland, its too much a risk for dealers to bear.
From personal experience, by having a rock-solid rapport both ways with your friendly dealer, they can not only do home demos, but also provide "easy payment" schemes the "buku 555" way. No collateral nor bank guarrantee needed.
I doubt if this could happen in any western country. Can't really explain it except that its a culture thing..... us being Asians.
Lets not use Pertama Complex dealers (or the modern day versions in swankier shirts and uppity places) as the gold standard. They aren't. They're at best ... electronics peddlars, similar to those so called "hifi & electronics store" along London's Tottenham Court Rd but run by Pakis, Indians, etc ... would you go ask them for a "home demo" or regard them as hi-fi authorities ?

Re: home audition
tin,
As you have said, you spent most of your life abroad, i presume in the west.
Now, in the west (UK for instance), you can sell newspapers by just putting them on a bench with a box for the money. Now if you do that in Malaysia, all your newspaper will be gone together with the money. You will be lucky if you still have the money box left !
In Malaysia with the general mentality of the consumer as it is,....still TAK bolih !

Re: home audition
First of all tin, I thank you for your reconciliatory post.
Now that you have explained your background, I will only tell you like a few others have already done so, that the audiophile circle over here is quite different from the west, assuming that's where you spend most of your life in. In fact, if it is a place like the U.K., my own personal opinion is that their level is generally lower in terms of the 'high-end', than in the U.S. or even in places like Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. Also the culture between the west and the east is very different. There are thing that they do there that we don't have but there are also things we have here that they don't have.
My opinion continues to remain that home demo is totally up to the discretion of the dealer. What I feel, rather strongly about viboy's question, is how the partcular customer is clearly exploiting or rather, ABUSING, the internet for his/her own selfish means - to blackmail and bully a dealer into doing something. Whether the request is fair or not is one thing. But to threaten and to bully is simply something that is not acceptable.
The internet, and especially a hifi community forum belongs to all of its members. And people like that will only destroy the credibility and respect others have for an internet community. Eventually, people will avoid 'forumers' simply because of the bad rap we get from the actions of a few bad apples.
The person better not try to abuse h4s for his/her own selfish means. We should all work together to assure such people don't get their way in our forum. A forum with fair-minded and objective members will build up credibility and respect and this is important for the forum to grow and become influential.

As a malaysian, i think its funny when :
1. tin says "I think it sum up our mentality as malaysians;everything must be calculated in Dollars and cents.."
2. carz says "In Malaysia with the general mentality of the consumer as it is,....still TAK bolih !"
My opinion :
1. Money makes the world go round, irregardless of color, creed, religion or country.. Its a shame not to realise that.
2. What is the "general mentality of the consumer" i wonder. Is that a psychological term? A general term? A mental term? or a consumer term?

I know of some supplier that go by the principle. If the principle is not right, even if u have millions to spare, he will not sell you a piece of his equipment.
