Onix fried my speaker

Post by ahmadfarouks on Thu Sep 30, 2010 2:33 am

I just got an Onix OA20/2 today. Getting home I plugged my JPW Mini's into it and played a track from my Micromega Stage 1. Before the song even finished my right speaker sounded distorted and I saw smoke coming out of the back of the amp. Turned it off, let it cool down and opened it up. Checked the speaker fuses and found one to be different from the other. I guessing that the right fuse did not blow and continued to pass current to the right channel. I also noticed some diodes burned. I switched the fuses, turned it on and thankfully the amp still works but the right channel no longer works (no sound). Can anyone here help me by recommending where i can get it fixed, please... BTW, my JPW speaker was fried and now I need a new driver for it. Anyone know where I could get one of those too. Maybe I'll need a pair so that they match. Thank god i didn't plug in my LS3/5A's.

To get it fixed, you could contact Mr. Oh at 012-2060 888.

Try to contact Mr Oh, he's a knowleagble & honest tech (repaired some items for me successfully esp the item I had a nasty experience with a Butterwort trader recently). But u might hv difficulty getting replacement drivers for yr JPW.(my experience is that recoiled drivers will sound diff/imbalance.)

Hv u tried to contact the seller of the amp?

Sent the amp to Mr. Oh. Said he's have it repaired for me sometime by the middle of the month. Managed to get a pair of Peerless (from India) drivers for my JPW's after scrounging the whole of Jalan Pasar. I must say that they sound pretty impressive. Apparently, the shop selling them didn't know the value and fortunate for me he had a pair of exactly what i needed (5" full range polypropylene drivers). I paid only RM60 for the pair.

Honestly can't recall but its after the traffic light at RHB, 3rd or 4th shop from the end. They don't have anymore. I got the last pair. The rest they had were Chinese drivers supposedly using British technology.
