If anyone who think that I could get one that sound as good for lesser money, PLEASE, I want to know. And how shall I secure one? Roughly the cost? Remember also that Wong KN and I did has extensive discussion on this...

Thanks,

I am equally interested to know and the advice I've got to do this cheaply by experienced folks is either to use a Mac Mini(Firewire 800 or USB 2.0 out to DAC) or a Logitech Squeezebox Touch. Since you've already got a Macbook, you can try hooking up a good DAC to it. The interface between the Mac and DAC in using the appropriate connection/cable and the use of recommended softwares(Pure Music/Amarra) would be equally important in getting the best out of the setup. Not too sure how this configuration would compare with the Bryston BDP-1/BDA-1 though since your past experience with the setup has been less than convincing.

I just got to know that the Western Digital media player is not very suitable for high-quality playback material, to put it mildly.

OK, here's a good consumer home solution.

Mac Mini, Toslink output (with 3rd party drivers, it can output 24/96 easily) INTO a Re-clocker (since most Macs/PC's digital outs have lousy jitter specs, and its plastic optical), with an AES/EBU output or Coaxial, then into a DAC of your choice.

If you have got a mac or PC, best way is to buy a M2Tech Hiface (approx 400+RM) which support up to 24/192.
HiFace to computer using USB and output using BNC or RCA to yr DAC.(assuming yr DAC does not accept USB input).

Forget about toslink or others.
