audio doubts

Post by ruimoutinho on Fri Feb 04, 2011 7:33 pm

Hello everyone

Some questions from a beginner.

I have a DVD home theater with the speakers at 8 ohms for each speaker (except the subwoofer is 4 ohms). Soon I will replace the two main speakers by Mission 734 who i think are prepared to bi-wire. Does it uses twice the impedance? Or I can use at will and does not damage the amp?

And one question probably even more absurd than my other questions: can I connect these (or other) columns to two diferent amplificators? one: the 5.1 home theatre amplificator; other: the 2.0 normal / old/ but good amplificator. Do i need a speaker switcher? That exists? I know the switcher to speakers A or B but i think i'll need the otherwise.

By the way, and also to do with sound:
On my PC I have linked some creative 2.1 that have a powered subwoofer and two small satellites. Does anyone know what the impedance that can connect / replace the satellites? 4, 6, 8 ohms? any other? I can't found even in the internet , the manual of that creative 2.1 and I can not imagine what the impedance of these systems after the internal amplifier swoofer ...

Thanks and all the best for all

I've been researching and some appliances and costly part, I wonder if this simplicity does not solve the problem ...

is that right? could connect a pair of speakers to two different systems? no problems with impedance, etc?

A bit difficult to understand your questions but i'll try.

1. Bi-wiring will make no difference to the speaker impedance.

2. You CAN NOT connect the same speaker to two amplifiers.

3. If your Creative Labs system does not specify the impedance of the satellites, there is no way of finding out - short of measuring it.

4. A switch like the one you linked to in the second post should work if you want to connect one speaker to two amplifiers.
