Hi Joe,

Sarawak. An interesting place to be in now. Do give me a call if you are in KL. Will bring you around to sample some SETs.

Best wishes.

joeling wrote:Whao, so many advice & information. Thanks for that.

brabusm, thanks for the invite but unfortunately, I live in Sarawak.

I'm taking both options so that I can switch between them depending on my mood. The SET really struck a chord with me though. Guess I'm more of a warm, airy non accurate sort of an audio person. The Cary reminded me of my old setup which I really liked - an OTL + single driver speaker with helper tweeter. Took me 10 years to find a replacement speaker. My advice to those looking at the Mitsubishi Diatone PM610MB - run away before you are sucked in. U will spend years looking for something that can equal the vocal performance of the Mitsubishi but u have to live with the bass or the lack of in the meantime.

Joe Ling

Hi Joe,

Interesting looking speaker. How big is the driver?

best wishes.

joeling wrote:I have lived with a good pair of single driver speakers for the last 10 years. It's a love/hate relationship. Kind of happy/sad that I have moved on mainly because I found an equivalent in the ProAc. Mind u not better but acceptable but more low end. Also moved into a bigger room to boot.

Anyway, I think it is important to b able to listen & compare before one plunges in. Looks like a visit to this year's show would be nice.

The drivers are 6 inch I think. Bass reflex boxes built in Johore years ago.

I also have a pair of 300b set in PJ under the knife of Octave. They promised me it will be ready this year...

I will take up your offer if I get the chance thanks.

Regards,
Joe

Just finished a listening session by myself. Listening in the dark is the way to go. Everything sounds so very good. Nicole then Eva sounds great. Instruments beyond the boundary of the speakers... Way past bedtime already.

Ref5+ref110 driving the big ProAc while source is both pc+pace car USB+ARC DAC8 & the AMR

Joeling,

From what you are saying, why not change to Ref110 and then to be fair to the dealer, use the difference to get something else. If you get such good sound, should not be wishy washy anymore.

Yes agree. I have committed to exchange the ref 210 with the 110 & also option 2 so can swap depending on my mood.

Gonna have to fork out some more hard earned $$$

My dealer have been thoroughly over the top helpful. He also left the Arc 40 anniversary with me for testing. I don't know how long I can resist before I put that unit to the test...

In hindsight I think the speakers are starting to loosen up. I must b around the 500hr mark by now. Everything just sounded more at ease & I find that I don't need to turn the volume up that high. Also I listened with the lights out. While there are still some faint glow of blue LEDs, I find it quite pleasant.

More listening ahead except work is getting in the way.

Regards,
Joe Ling
