Re: 300B + high-sensitivity speaker
my 8 watt 300b can roar with Harbeth C7 easily. Currently delivering tremendous bass lines with my vintage 3 way. If ur amp character is laidback then u ought to get higher sensitivity ones.

Let me add ...I don't want to make my own speaker system. An easily available pair in the malaysian market is what I need...less than rm5k...

Worth trying out if you have a way out with the Custom tax. For cabinet, I think someone in the forum said there is carpenter in kampung subang or sg buloh can custom made it.

Sujesh, call Yap from Octave. Try out his last pair of Gre-pins. It will change your life forever especially with the 300B.
Which 300B are you using with 10w?
[
quote="bassraptor"]Just wondering ... what would be a good match for a 10-watt, single-ended 300B tube amp that won't cost the earth ... i think shud be 95dB and above?
Any tips? And pls don't say Avant Garde Uno or any such thing!

If DIY, try Audio Nirvana 12" Super Cast in 2.8 cabinet. For around 2 K plus, you can compare yr system to those 20k skeakers. I am serious. I got the source for the cabinets if you are interested. There are many owners in town.
Try Omega full rangle single driver speakers if not DIY. They are high db and sound fantastic.

Re: 300B + high-sensitivity speaker
If really go for Audio Nirvana, i may suggest to try AN 15" instead of 12" if you got space. For the cabinet i prefer the plywood than MDF for Audio nirvana.

Re: 300B + high-sensitivity speaker
Thanks for all the advice, guys ...
I managed to get an Odeon Audio Nova horn-loaded speaker, 91dB sensitivity, over the weekend, driving it with the 10-watter, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the level of performance! The amp is new, the speakers haven't been played for a while ... so I'm giving the combo a workout ...

I tried that pair before. Lovely. If you can, try it with a 12" cone. The low notes are amazing.

For modern high-sensitivity speakers, the more budget ones are Audio Note AX-2 and perhaps the new Triangle Color series.

SJ, your speakers are not the only thing sensitive. Your bekside is definitely more sensitive, always itchy and you don't seem to like scratching. Either that or the STAR is really paying you well. Got any more similar positions like yours ar ?

Nope, my position is unique. Once I'm gone, that's it, the position is gone, too!
I've been with The Star for 22 years. They'd better be paying me at least something decent! Still, someone on my level in the other paper would be getting 50% more ....
