YPAO, MCACC, Audyssey & even XTZ .... they are all chump change compared to a proper room measurement software.

Why ? Because they are usually just running/measuring at 1/3 octave resolution only.

In order to truly reveal the room characteristics, something along the lines of 1/12 or 1/24 Octave resolution is required.

Try R.E.W. (Room EQ Wizard) software and the best part, its freeware.
But you'll need your own rig consisting of an SPL meter and preferably a condenser mic (something like a ECM8000 from Behringer). And these mics usually will need a mic Preamp with 48V phantom power.

Ah Foo kor, MCACC, Audyssey, YPAO are all acoustic calibration system. REW and XTZ on the other hand are room measurement software.

jchong and many other lyn members are using REW s/w. As you mentioned, free mah Very Happy

Elhefe,

Somehow I have developed a preference for Audyssey for the calibration, perhaps due to my experience playing with the SVS subwoofer equalizer. So it was really down to only Onkyo vs Marantz. Then the fact that I have a friend who works as a SA in CMY 1-U versus the fact that I know the owner of HiWay Laser SS2, guess who can give me a better deal ? And finally, a recommendation from someone whom I trust for AV advice, led me to go for the Marantz. Unlike hifi, I am not that deep into AV yet. Intentional la. I know how itchy my bekside can get but how shallow my pockets are ! Very Happy

Is the movie Notting Hill Gate available on Blu-Ray ? Max ? I like the Boyzone songs in there so you know why I want 'those' version right ? Very Happy

WongKN,

Aaaahhh ok its a personal preference + experience + best price hehehe.

Same here, I had been using Yamaha for so long, my ears are tuned to them hehehe. Although I was adviced by CMY OU as well to try out Onkyo. And I did demo Onkyo but still prefers Yamaha.

I will have a write up on the Yamaha 2067 and Oppo 95Eu this weekend.

Just watched POTC Strange Tides last night in 7.1 DTS MA. Hhhhmmmm very very satisfying.

P/S: What movie is that Notting Hill Gate? Have not heard it. I know Notting Hill

perhaps i forgot to mention that in order to properly correct the room, the measurement needs to be of sufficient resolution. What the MCACC, Audyseey measures in the initial stage, is not of high-enough resolution. Thats the point.

Perhaps someone confused between that place in London called "Notting Hill Gate", famous for some used Records stores and that Notting Hill street festival which also links to Portobello Road (famous for its shop of antiques & what nots), vs. the movie "Notting Hill" starring Hugh Grant & Julia Roberts.

He is looking for media player. The Dune that Hi-way is selling is bdp with media player (Dune Max). He might need to jalan-jalan at IT Mall in PJ Section 14 to find Dune media player.

Got two main version, one without bluray reader, one with. There was someone selling it at the KLAVS. But now probably needs to go jalan jalan. For MF, he should just buy the higher version la. The difference in price is chicken feed to him. Laughing

Jinjang Foo already has a BDP. That's why he want to have a standalone Dune media player. A bit far to go to PJ SS14 from Jinjang though.

Since we are discussing about home theatre,i have a question here.Media player above RM300,can they produce the pure dts-hd like blu ray players below 1k.I have a dts-hd yamaha amplifier with me now and not sure to go for Media player or a Blu ray player.

As long as the media player can do bitstream. Your Yamaha will be doing the decoding. I would recommend that you have a look at Dune H1 which is less than RM800.

Go for bluray player / media player on the upper rung of below 1k budget. More versatile, save space, save on interconnects. The performance is about equal. Just invest in a decent aftermarket HDMI cable around RM300 and welcome to the the wonderful world of HDAV. Swear u will not want to watch another DVD again. Remembered paying RM3000 for my first VCD player......pain is gone but the scar is still visible.Crying or Very sad

First time in this thread and also first time reading about the measuring resolution of MCACC, Audyssey, etc. Are you sure it is only 1/3 octave? I've never read about this issue before.

the cheapest home theatre setup is to get a headphone amp just for a simpler amplification, you will not lose any details..buy a good quality headphone for that purpose:bball: . You save up alot on speakers and monster THX amp..somemore skip on room acoustic issue, neighbour freindlier . housemate also happy not being disturbed...somemore future proof!
