Re: Bass boom after swapping from solid-state to tube power amp
Suggestion:
before reading up on alot of the articles at mfg websites, better have the basic foundation in place first.
Start with Ohm's law. V = I x R.
Then progress to the power equations, P = V^2 / R, or P = I^2 x R.
Otherwise, trying to digest all the other articles (and manufacturers are very smart to use quasi-technical articles to confuse the lay-consumers even further) would do more harm than good. Which makes this phrase "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing" all only too true.
If anyone really has a quest for knowledge into the Electronics behind hifi, i highly recommend this text book, "The Art of Electronics" by Horowitz & Hill. This book gives the basic foundation & understanding of basic Electronic circuits.
Anyone who wants to dive deeper into signals in the digital domain, try "A DSP Primer" by Ken Steiglitz.
Moving on, "Signals and Systems" by Oppenheim & Wilsky for more advanced understanding of electrical signals (audio signals included).
Hope u can remember your calculus and complex number formulas... Have fun.
Hifi electronics in general ain't exactly cutting edge by today's standards (compared to VLSI systems or Military/RF designs).

How does using Google alone ensure that the site is trustworthy or not?
Is the Google Engine smart enough to differentiate fact from fiction ?

That's easy..search for wikipedia, well known manufacturer and when in doubt, refer back to you...

In my limited experience, I believe the problem lies in the equipment. If the cost of room treatment exceeds that of the cost of equipment, i would suggest to just change the equipment. There's no point in having a set of tyres that is more costly the the CAR!
Cheers
I agree...
Bravo, why don't you try different set of speakers which easier to drive. No harm trying....

Re: Bass boom after swapping from solid-state to tube power amp
This thread shouldn't be renergated right towards the bottom of the list!
It's always a big challenge to get the bass content of the sound reproduction not only sounding right and very listenable. Listenable as in "your visitors won't suddenly remember they have another appointment somewhere else and have to leave in a hurry!"
However I always notice that good information turn out to be merely just information to be forgotten and hardly many will take on the task of 'hands on' experiences. Arm chair experts seems to dominate most forums.
Not only this, but different persons' perceptions as to what exactly is bass and bass contents differ variously different amongst different listeners!!!!!!!!!!
That's the main problem with people getting forwards with learning about the low hz realm!
Forummers will fight and tear at each other over the meaning of bass, worst when listening to bass contents each will have their own criteria to look out for and always as usual it's always explain away as personal preferences to avoid very heated arguments!
So is there such thingie as the 'right kind of bass sound'????
