But I am not a sifu la, I only qualify for the old part !
You think SJ or the admin still very young ? Actually the admin is still quite young la. I think we have to forget the moderators and nominate MF and sflam as they are the true gurus.

you're asking the wrong person here....
When the time comes, some announcement will go up either from the admin or from one of the mods.
Personally I am not a fan of such gatherings and nearly didn't even make the 1st round if it wasn't to deliver some black plastic poison to a fellow forummer.

Re: Music Servers VS Excellent Transports?
Finally got my streamer to beat my cd player...
The difference is the source of the hirez files, most vinyl rip and studio master just not up to par. I have tried the PS3 rip SACD iso, extract the DSD stream and up sample them to 24/192 PCM, and wow, they are much more dynamic, transparent but still a bit sharp. You guys who is into computer audio should try it...
cheers

Re: Music Servers VS Excellent Transports?
To the gurus here, a few curiosities of mine which I hope can be address here.
1.I am a bit confused by the Naim HDX manuals, it says, in order for HDX to
mount a Shared Volume the :-
“Folders containing audio files must be “shared”. Refer to
the folder’s host computer operating system user manual for details on setting
up the shared folders”
What kind of share the HDX is compatible with ? NFS, SMB or AFP shares? I am running on Mac OS. The retailer just “shared” the mounted NAS drive as a Window Network Share, in which case I assumed is a SMB share. Am I correct to assume that?
Can the HDX detect NFS and AFP shares?
2. I have pitted the CDX2 against Uniti SSD/NDX, the Uniti SSD/NDX combo comes very close to the CDX2 but still no dice. The UnitiSSD/nDac does not even come close to the CDX2, therefore I would like to try the HDX SSD vs CDX2.
And here is the million dollar question? Are there any cheaper solution out there that matches the performance/sound of the CDX2? I have tried Olive, Mac Mini - DAC - Pre Amp - Amp, Linn is out as there is no digital out – all no dice.
thanking you guys/gals for your forth coming response.

u r right shbehmal
dsd files sound much better than pcm files. even dsd masters converted to 24/96 pcm files sound very good.
For the past week of so, i hv been listening to dsd downloaded from the net (not ripped from sacd) and playing with j river v17 to w4s dac2. the dsd file is converted to 24/96 pcm by j river and the sound is fabulous - very natural and lifelike.
i think its sonic quality is due to the way the music is processed in the digital domain, the very high sampling rate which pushes noise to very high frequencies beyond the range of human hearing and the absence of brickwall filters in dsd processing.
i wld love to hear the dsd files played on a dsd-capable dac.
Re: Music Servers VS Excellent Transports?
There is a reasonably price dsd capable dac from Mytek Digital.

Re: Music Servers VS Excellent Transports?
i don't think the dual dac is capable of decoding dsd files.
afaik there r only 3 dacs that can decode dsd files in the market now.
1) dcs
2) playback designs
3) mytek digital

Re: Music Servers VS Excellent Transports?
Right sflam.
Only three right now.
Heard that native dsd thru dsd dac is fantastic.
The mytek looks interesting.

Re: Music Servers VS Excellent Transports?
Another choice :-
KORG MR-2000S, can perform both ADC and DAC, and price range is reasonable if compared to DCS or PlayBack Design.
http://www.korg.com/Product.aspx?pd=417
I have converted the native DSD file to 32/192, although they have better dynamics, better highs and excellent mid, low bass, more details compared to PCM, they still sound a bit "digital" to me, I wonder what can we do to remedied that.
Any sifu here have any experience with Nova Physic's Memory Player?
