Fizi, saw Shangri-La at Rock Corner Midvalley a few months back. Dono if still there.
Jedi, the Gary Moore I saw at The Adelphi was an original UK pressing. Guess that explains the difference with the mofi copy.

Re: Vinyl or CD
be it CD or Vinyl..both has their own strength.
for old folks and experienced masters nothing wrong to go for vinyl.
But new joined/comer, it will put a cursed on them,..they have no idea to make it run well[Skills required],one sifu told me a 'proper" turntable setup is at least cost $8000 and beyond,if we do have the $$ to spend.,,its like kid play pasir, sia sia!So its better play CDs to cut long nightmare short.
ofcourse those who broke the vinyl barrier already at hifi nirvana!

Re: Vinyl or CD
I like to think that I'm inexperience & young
. And it just so happens that I enjoy listening to 'black plastic'. My record 'skills' are, that am fairly good at taking it out & plopping it onto the 'spinning thing' and I don't know how to setup a TT properly. I send it to a trusted dealer for that. The last time, he changed my cart & 'tune' it and the charge was a princely sum of RM350. Oh yea, the TT was a 'proper' Planar 2.
Nirvana is all in the mind, at very much less than $8k, got me everything I needed. For all that change, I brought more music.

You're not wrong by buying more music, afterall better being a musicphile than audiophile.
A musicphile likely sleeps better at nite than some audiophiles!

Any sifu claiming that to get a good TT (or any other gear for that matter) NEEDS to be AT LEAST A CERTAIN PRICE is no sifu to me. Thats giving a very wrong and misleading impression of the hobby. I have never heard reknown international hifi experts claiming that you need to have minimum 8000 dollars to get good sound.
Sorry for being straight forward but there are people who are very happy with a cheaper set up.

Re: Vinyl or CD
Lets do a quick calculation, to start of on playing a decent respectable TT system:
Basic deck: RM1.2~1.5K
Cartridge: RM200
Decent Phono Amp (no Nad PP miniboxes please) : Rm 700~1K (Maybe a Clearaudio Nano-Phono or a ProJect Phonobox-SE).
Stylus brush: RM70
Record Brush: RM50
Total TT front end = approx RM 2.5~3K
Hmmmm... no where near that RM8K figure! (unless the remaining 5K is spent buying records lah! Which is fine by me....)

Anyone who says you NEED to spend big bucks for good sound is a sad sack of shit with self esteem issues.
Transmission ends.

Re: Vinyl or CD
Aiyoh, dont go hamtam hi5papa like that la. In some cases, it seem true on the 8k figure... Guess some of u here have something like this, and you can't survive with anything lower than this ya
Guess, I am the only one that close to mugen description of a TT setup.. oh, mine is even cheaper, I think not more than 1.5k for the whole things, and it is soundly beaten by mine CD setup.
The problem here is the hifi sifu might have a very gifted digital front end that truly good to take on a RM8k TT setup~..
Well, for majority of guys; we do love to have certain figure in our hifi.. how much, how big, how good, 1000W, 1000RMS, 1million dollar system, 10k cartridge. some potent figures. so 8k sound like 8 inches. and This is potent man!

Re: Vinyl or CD
I dont think we are hantam-ing hi5papa. We are hantam-ing the sifu hehehhe.
Its not also about 8K figure. Its abouta sifu portraying that one can only enjoy this hobby if they meet certain price range.
My current set up is the most unbalanced set up I think... My amp and speakers are in the range of RM10 to 15K but my sources are all below RM 5K. But still very happy with it.
At the same time, my previous set up was all below RM2.5K for each component....but was very happy to use it for nearly 11 years.
And throughout that 11 years, I have listened to set ups that are 10 time more expensive than mine but I still find happiness with my set up.

You are right. Don't shoot the messenger...he was just relaying what others said and may not necessarily agree with his friend's statement.
