How much KVa do I need for 225wpc amplifier?
Thinking of adding balanced transformer and how much power do I need for that. 225wpc power amp, a preamp, cdp..
thanks
thanks
Re: How much KVa do I need for 225wpc amplifier?
You can't deduce the Mains load requirements based on an Amp's power output because some amps may be 25% efficient (example, they can output 100Wpc/200Wtotal but actually need to consume 800Watts from TNB), or 50% efficient, or somewhere in between.
Its better to check the power consumption of all your hifi gear that u want to put on the balanced transformer.

here's what u need to do:
go look up the manual of all the hifi gear's POWER CONSUMPTION that you wanna load onto the Balanced Tranny.
(eg, CD player - 35W, PhonoAmp - 40W , Preamp - 25W, Poweramp - 1000W) , so your total wattage consumption would be 1100W or 1.1KW.
Typical power-factor (PF) at home is typically 0.6 to 0.7, so just use 0.65 as a rough guide.
So the KVA that u need is the total power consumption (based on 1.1KW) divided by the PF which is 0.65 = 1.7KVA.
Give abit more headroom for safety margin, a 2KVA Transformer would be quite adequate. Or if you're paranoid, 4KVA is best.
Disclaimer: The above example is for illustrative purposes only. If you are unsure about anything, better to consult a qualified electrician from a reputable electrical contractor firm. Always remember to put safety first when dealing with electrical stuff.

Hi bro, so did you manage to get a quote from the transformer winder?
OTOH if you're wanting 2KVA I'm selling my personal BPT as you know. Pls come over to my place for an audition. You will be surprised by how much more grunt it enables the system to have.
cheers.
