Re: Remember Whitney- RIP
mofaz, it is indeed sad to hear this news. Her long serious addiction to drug and her troubled marriage were pulling her down until this 'untimely' death.
In recent years, many talented singers have abruptly left us. Hopefully, there will be no more such sad news this year.
RIP Whitney Elizabeth Houston.

Re: Remember Whitney- RIP
Casual browse in Ebay and some local news that WH albums are quickly being snapped up and bidded on Ebay.
I still have at least 4 WH CD albums, some Bodyguard OST and including the one in the 1st post, various early USA and Japan pressings. Reckon it could become collectibles hereon. Have seen some in recent times at Amcorp for peanuts but didn't collect them all, as I'm not exactly here most ardent fan, perhaps only to relish some of her biggest hits. Lucky me bought those on used market when people threw them out.

Re: Remember Whitney- RIP
I would put it this way. For a -real- fan of her, the person would/should already have all the records or CDs that he/she wants. Certainly eventhough I am not that big a fan, I have long ago already gotten those records of hers that I want. So for those who suddenly become interested to get her records and CDs now, well unfortunately they will find out what they are letting themselves in for because they are throwing themselves head-on into the hype and profiteering business. For anyone whom suddenly 'found' the richness and joy of Whitney Houston's music only now, well is there a need to rush ? Why not wait until all the profiteers are done and gone and then her records and CDs will be available for much more reasonable prices. This was what happened with John Denver last time. And will happen for chinese song fans for the famous Foong Fei Fei as well.

Re: Remember Whitney- RIP
Wow, I hear that Whitney's ex-husband is going to write a book or something 'exposing' Whitney in her real life. Talk about taking advantage... Sad thing is apparently already got publishers lining up to fund the book.

Yah, that's what the news was saying la. Making money off dead people. Lots of such people around actually. In Malaysia, they will take advantage of sick people - ever seen all those cars which follows behind an ambulance ? We can't know if they are actually family of the person inside the ambulance or not but I have personally seen several cases where the car was later seen waiting at a traffic light while the ambulance have already sped away.

Re: Remember Whitney- RIP
A friend who is a chiropractor told me one of his customers is from a major telco. You know those fancy greetings SMS'es we get during festive season ? E.g. A huge christmas tree for christmas greeting ? Or those MMS with moving pictures. When we receive those, especially ladies, they say "wah so cute la", so they forward to friends, sisters, etc. Apparently the telcos pays big money to people to create those SMS'es or MMS'es. So they hope for those SMS's or MMS's to go viral so they make huge money off SMS charges. One thing I'll admit, ppl damn smart to find new ways to make money nowadays.

You know, in another community forum which I'm a member, our mod would strictly strike off or seriously warn us forumers about hearsay without basis or absolute proof of malpractice or sinister things that happen in this bolehland that affect people's lives directly or indirectly, as there's vested interest involved and very opportunistic to profit from anyone they target regardless of any ethics or anyone else's privacy.
Just like my dirty feelings could say local banks and financial institutions are likely selling off one's confidential data to others who see some opportunity to profit from you in one way or another. Clear examples is when I receive phone calls from some party with the whole intent to sell you something and they quote some personal details that only you know it was submitted to some financial institution as part of application of some facility.
Sorry if its OT.

Re: Remember Whitney- RIP
This is not OT but quite an interesting point you brought up. Let's talk about it for a while.
Hearsay is quite subjective. In this case, the story was supposedly relayed from someone who works in the telco industry. So this is something brought up for discussion. Do we classify it as hearsay because there is no proof or do we talk about it ?
The other way is to say that if one has not heard it firsthand, then everything is considered hearsay. But then, if (for e.g.) I know for a fact that your suspicion is correct, but since only I know about it as a fact and you yourself have not seen the facts yourself, does that mean that you can never talk about it ? In this case, does the fact that you see clear evidence that your personal data has been 'sold', but because you don't have proof, you can never and are never allowed to voice it out ? In the first place, the person who 'claims' to know it as a 'fact', how do we confirm that he really do know it as a fact. What proof has he or she ? Or do we ask for hard proof of everything someone says ? (Your example is quite a good one actually).
Take the case of Whitney Houston's ex-husband planning to write 'tell-all' book. It was reported in the news but there is no proof he actually will do it. Well, not until the book actually comes out. Can we or can we not talk about it then ? To take things to the extreme, even the death of Whitney Houston. Until we actually see the funeral, all reports of her death are 'hearsay' as well, right ?
The way I see it, this is a delima and has always been a delima in any forum. If we enforce too much on the limit of what can and cannot be said without 'proof', then most forums cease to exist. So even in the strictest of forums that I am a member of (ordinary member, not moderator), there are still leeways and the only enforcement is issues like flaming, insulting of other members, attempts to suppress difference of opinions, vulgar/dirty posts, insensitive post with regards to religious/racial matters, etc. Of course there is also the not so clear cut case. If an accusation is made directly to someone, then the accussed would have the right to ask for proof. Or like an attempt to spread a rumour. In that case, some form of subjective judgement will have to be made. There will never be a clear-cut case. And the person to make a judgement, well it is not a position to envy.
Well you get the picture. In the end, it might be a moot point since at least I is not in the position to properly moderate a forum due to time constraints. So the less moderation, probably the better !
