Are those MDA-300 monoblocs you have. I thought I remember Krell MDA-300s as being much deeper than what's in the photos though. Maybe I remember wrongly. That's the problem of growing old I suppose

13.2:1 ratios.

Wah, Nice speaker. Thanks for sharing.May I know what amp are you using to drive it? Last time I try to using ceraball under my friend's B&W DM602.5 S3. Although it got a lot improvement in many way, but we are give up because found it not so nature. May be ceraball can match you system well, but you should test it before buy.

I've been told the Primare could use some speed. Try some silver in the mix. Give Kimber KCAG a go. Could work for you.

Actually before I thoroughly auditioned the Primare I was also led to believe that it would be slow and warmy. Its actually quite neutral and I don't have any speed issues as the Rega Saturn and Audiophysic Scorpio speakers are plenty fast enough for my ears. Interconnects have just been upgraded to silvery Siltech ST-18IQ.

Hi llsaw,

I was with the Primare A30.1 integrated amp to pair with my Audio Physic Yara Evolution; CDP is Rega Apollo.

I don't really like the sound of the amp with the set up until finally I changed to a tube amp. The speaker and CDP matches well now.

I think Andre, the place you bought your Audio Physic do sell the ClearAudio Power cord since they are the distributor for it.

Good to meet a fellow Rega CDP and Audiophysic speaker owner. Having owned an Apollo before upgrading I can safely say the Saturn is a big big improvement over the Apollo. More of every frequency and especially so the lower registers. I have not heard the Yara but the Scorpio is also a major improvement over the Tempo which I auditioned previously but had to bust the bank to purchase. Alms for the poor?

I very much like the Primare I30 having auditioned it with my favourite Naim and valves are mostly no-no for my taste unless its something like a Nagra.

And yes am waiting for Andre to terminate a Clearaudio Diamond power cable for me with UK 3-pin plug to home audition..

Those coins on the wall are not coins at all. In cantonese translation it's call wall demolition devices. "Phor Cheong Pek".

Basically, you get the effect of increased depth as if the rear wall has ben magically demolished. Got a friend who sells this among other good stuff and can give free house call demo. No obligation.

You want? Let me know and i'll PM you his contact.

Yes! Some of these devices are marvellous! The walls just seems to 'disappear'!!!! The more difficult 'trick' will be to get a RF curve that makes your 'whole' sound room 'disappear"!!! Ultimate!!!

Post by Lamkochai on Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:12 pm

hi ZB,

i dont know how they work. i read it from some websites (forgot the address) and just try it. Magically it really increases the depth but a lot of trial and error needed. Just use any coins (basically i found that singapore 1 cent coin is most usefull) and put at power cord iec, below your speaker, wall plug and anywhere u can think of. its free, so no harm trying

you can try other things:
1) copper rings, ferrite rings and ball bearings from hardware shop. can put below amp adn cd player. can be used in combination (like bearing on a copper ring). these rings and bearings just cost 10cents each. got the inspiration from the vibrapod thing.

2) squash ball cut into halves. You may not see it clearly from my photo. I put it below my centre speaker. i have tried it below amp and cd player but it soften the bass and transient.

3) brass plates are very usefull. (i get it from dissembling my harmonica). hang them on the ceilings and at the edge of the wall. you have to try multiple location to get the correct placement. I guess the same principle is used by the resonators sold by CMY but its much cheaper if you make your own one.

4) my musical fidelity cd player has quite a thin box. i can feel something vibrate if i put my hand on top of it when playing a cd. I put a heavy book on top of its cd drawer and it improves the sound stage and tighten the bass.

these are few tricks i am doing now. there are so many free and cheap tweaks you can try if you search through the internet.

A very perceptive statement. It's not only the MF but all CD players are susceptible to vibration and all of them vibrates to a degree. Whenever we have an electric motor (what spins the CD ? An electric motor), we get vibration. One of the difference between dedicated transports/high-end CD players vs the more affordable ones is how they control that vibration. Vibration affects the ability of the lens to track the CD and it causes the error correction mechanism to come into play. All these things affect the sound.

Many audiophiles do not know this factor. This is also of the argument points some people has against TTs, saying TTs are susceptible to vibration but CDPlayers are not. But they are as well.

Problem is , poorly constructed chassis are also very susceptible to airborne vibrations from the speakers. Not just for CD players but also for DACs, phono stages, pre-amps, int amps, power amps... etc.

Thats why heavy high end equipments all have thick metal plates to minimise these vibrations affecting the delicate circuit boards and other components inside.

Thanx guys, very informative, however to hang around and about brass thingies in my living room is another thing with my better half. Maybe can be in the guise of 'red packets' hanging from the Cherry blossoms, (almost CNY maH)... Very Happy

On the vibration part, concurred and indeed true in my case as my Simaudio CDP about 2 months ago has been doing the skipping and 'no disc' display. Since I installed vibrapods, these have lessen quite considerably, still I think time for a check up for the lens.. Does Mr Oh do CD lens?Question. May drop by after after CNY.

Cheers and av a goodweekend (longer one for those working in Wilayah) cheers sunny

Ask your hifi buddies to bring their speakers to your place to try out, to know for sure. Then u will have a wide variety of speakers to audition.
