PrimaLuna Dialogue anyone???

Ok, It's true, Sonus faber and Krell does has some sort of synergy going on between them. Well, i've recently been there with my Krell KAV-300i and Minima Amator and heard it all for myself. But i'm now thinking of going back to the warmth of valves which I miss so much and I want to do it without taking out another mortgage. Has anyone auditioned the PrimaLuna Dialogue One??? I do like the fact that it's remote controlled.



Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated. Fire away...

Not much of comments I can give about Primaluna.
Been to CMY and they paired ProAc Response D18 with one of the Primalunas.
Sound wise is like a typical valve amp - smooth with adequate power.

But if I may ask, why Primaluna?
Your Krell has remote control too and yourself already mentioned there are synergies between the Krell and Minima Amator.

If you really want to sell off your Krell, give me the number 1 in the queue list... hahahahahahahaha....

Yeah the Krell, SonusFaber synergy is a good thing and it's seriously good but listening to my vocal recordings from Madam Cai Qin and other vocal centric recordings, I miss that midrange dripping with sweet honey from my old EL34. And that big boomy vintage bass... Yeah, I guess age might have something to do with it.

Why Primaluna? Well, I was comtemplating replacing my old valve monoblocks with a Primaluna Prolog 1 at the time but made a detour to check out what the Krell/SF synergy was all about. Well, there's definately something good there and I can tune it to sound valvy too with a gold telos cap here and there... But now it's specifically EL34/Minima Amator synergy that I miss. The one dripping with sweet honey, not the one laced with saccherine and msg.

And the Dialog 1 has now been improved over the Prolog 1 so I was wondering if anyone here in these forums could give me a bit of a review.

Ah... My KAV-300i, just like Mugenfoo it will go on strategic reserve for the times when I need to rattle my bones a little. But if I do sell, you'll be numero uno on my list.

not my KAV-300i man ... mine's been re-commissioned with a very nice Thorens TT and SF Concerto already.

Perhaps I shall wait a little longer... hahahahaha...

This Primaluna.. how muchies does it cost to change the tubes?

It uses 4 EL34 power tubes. Starting from RM100 each. Driver and buffer tubes are 2 12AU7 and 2 12AX7. Well, with auto biasing and soft starting it will be many many years before re-tubing is required. Compared to my previous Cary monoblocks with 4 EL34 per monoblock and another 6 exotic tubes per side the primaluna is relatively cheap to maintain.

Don't know how much CMY is selling though. Should be less than RM6K I think. Can't find reviews on the net though.

Anyway, it's more like gaining weight lah dude. It's called middle age spread. Boomy bottom, bloated mid and rolled off highs.

quite the opposite lah dude. Midlife crisis you go buy a Hayabusa or a Harley or a big bad Krell or something like that. Not something warm and fuzzy like valve amplification. When your time comes you'll know lah bro.

Dialogue is more than that, it's the Prologue that's in the 5-6k range.

If approaching 10k you can also consider stretching the budget to VTL, Cary, or Audio Research (maybe just a tube power and use the Krell as the pre).

did encik bimmer proceed with primaluna? so CMY is the only option to audition primaluna? theres heaps of products from them nowdays & certainly looks promising.. but then looks can be deceiving right? hehe

nope, did not proceed. lately plenty of used Jardis Orchestras for sale at much cheaper prices too.
