Re: What are you listening to right now?
hifikrazy wrote:Read somewhere around the discussion area that the German voice on Track 2 of the Manger CD should be small and tight if you have your setup right. If that's the case, my system failed miserably... crashed and burned spectacularly. Tried it last night, and the "size" of the voice seems like it is coming from a bloody Giant!
generally the size of the german talking is relatively big though not gigantic, i guess this is likely due to close miking
i experienced the challenge in projecting close-miked images, not with only this track as you have mentioned herein but there exist numerous e.g. stacey's vocal in "the boy next door" album, track 2 male voice narrative in http://new.music.yahoo.com/chen-guo/albums/you-kong-lai-zuo-zuo-visit-me-if-you-have-time-off--29608903, leonard cohen's etc... there are just numerous tracks in other albums facing the same challenge
i have gathered that this phenomenon is somewhat charactered by sparsed images which is attributable to midrange resonance and of course speaker placements which still require more care
how to deal with this? referring back to the reasons heh heh... eliminate the resonance by fiddling with speaker placements and adjust room acoustics, i guess only

Last weekend was mostly electronic. Useful when you need extra motivation when waxing car
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra. Still has its moments 37 years down the road

The Orb - UF Orb

Recoil - Unsound Methods. I rate this better and to my ears less dark than "Liquid"

though not super fast, it requires speed and more importantly it demands low bass i.e. 40hertz to play back nicely

i'm now spinning this

maybe you like this too as she's just unpolished and sincere (not pretentious)

In replying to your earlier post on female violinists, recently managed to grab two classical albums of Japanese female violinists from KLIAV show, i.e Ikuko Kawai (川井郁子) - http://www.ikukokawai.com/ and Lina Matsuda (松田理奈) - http://www.dolcelina.com/ as CD albums below.
They are not only pretty but also their violin performance are superbly presented IMO.

hi erik
i was told of this award winning piece since 2- 3 years ago though only lately have i managed to rip from the original cd and burnt onto cdr to spin in my own setup
lin sheng xiang [hanyu pinyin] is gifted with unassuming vocal, he presented with nice guitar accompaniments, i have been truly attracted by the guitar strummings with exceptionally beautiful harmonics and subsequently only have i noted that a couple japanese were the guitarists though i am not sure if they are well known heh heh...
i have not visited jo for more than a year, in fact the last visit was on 25 july 2009 (kliav show) when i helped ferry few friends from kuching and singapore, no audition for me due to crowd
cheers

Hi Koo,
'Jung Soo' by Lin Sheng Xiang can be found at Roxy Music, Adelphi Singapore. I got this more than couple of years ago.
Have you got Terez Montcolm? You may like her vocal structure.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Last nite was Placebo nite. Listened to "Battle for the Sun", "Without You I'm Nothing" and my latest acquisition "Sleeping with Ghosts".

To put it in chronoligal perspective "Sleeping.." lies in between my favourite "Without You I'm Nothing" and the latest "Battle for the Sun". "Sleeping.." sounds more electronic compared to other two more rock oriented albums though you wouldn't believe so if you just heard the first track.
Tonight was Kings of Convenience - Riot on An Empty Street which I prefer over their already excellent latest album. Kings of Convenience are an indie folk-pop duo from Bergen, Norway.

and some big band jazz with great improvisation: Dave Holland Big Band - Overtime
