Re: Pioneer S-ES3TB
kenwoo,
Those are the impedance values.
Those are the impedance values.

Re: Pioneer S-ES3TB
Hi Kenwoo,
Like El said those are impedance value of a speaker system.
Every speaker system has its "resistance"
to its connected amplifier.
The amplifier needs to overcome this "resistance" or "load" so-called in order to produce the sound or music.
This "resistance" in a speaker system varies / changes a bit as different frequencies being fed through the speaker system.
And frequencies produce or make up the sound
or music ya...
In electronic term, we use impedance to describe this variable "resistance".
An amplifier needs to "push" the speaker system
in order to make it "speak up".
So its easier for the amplifier to "push" a 4ohm
speaker system than an 8ohm one.
Because 8ohm is more "resistive" than 4ohm.
Hope this helps...

Re: Pioneer S-ES3TB
On the contrary, (correct me if I am wrong) I believe a 4ohm speaker puts more load on an amplifier than a 8ohm speaker.

Re: Pioneer S-ES3TB
Hi sph,
sometime I read this type of description too.
I used to see this word "load" as "risk" too.
It is true that a lower impedance speaker system draws more current from the amplifier
than a higher impedance system at a same
voltage.
So the amplifier connected to a lower impedance
speaker system is under a "risk" condition where
it need to handle a higher current passing tru it.
If the amplifier is not designed to handle big current well, it would be "killed" first.....
Of course I believe most of today amplifiers are
designed with certain degree of protection
features in this area.
Above is just my understanding,,,,,,
Enjoy your music and movie.....

Re: Pioneer S-ES3TB
Hi kenwoo,
I don't think so there is any quality issue.
The main purpose is to have the speaker unit
(we used to call it as driver) to improve its
sensitivity or sound pressure level (SPL)
at a given power value (in term of watt
and voltage).
And sensitivity / SPL is measured in db unit.
(like you measure length in cm)
Then what is sensitivity of a driver?
Well you may understand this term as
a relative-loudness of a driver .
Say example :
a designer has used all the same raw
material to build two drivers except the
voice-coil ; one with 4 ohm voice-coil
and another with 8 ohm voice-coil.
So now he has one driver with 4 ohm
impedance and another similar driver
but with 8 ohm impedance.
Then the designer feeds a power of
2.83 volt to the 4 ohm driver ;
the SPL output from the driver could
be say, 88 db.
Then same 2.83 volt is fed to the 8 ohm driver
exactly under same measurement condition
like in 4 ohm driver:
the SPL output from the 8 ohm driver would
used to be lower then 88 db.
So here we used to say the 4 ohm driver is
more sensitive than the 8 ohm driver.
A bit long winded but hope you could
understand the above .
Just enjoy your music and movie......
