Tonearm/cartridge Geometry. Which is your preference?

Post by mugenfoo on Tue Jan 05, 2010 1:39 am

Starting this thread for vinyl-heads on tonearm & cartridge alignment geometry.

Which is your preference:
Löfgren-A aka Baerwald
Löfgren-B

Whatabout these.. :
Stevenson
Bauer
Seagrave

How about different inner radii and outer radii optimisations based on the above geometries?

Wow... Looks like scientific name.
I just know that the Clearaudio kit is good.
One of my fellow hifi friends helped to fine tune a P3-24 using his Clearaudio kit.
Really appreciate his help, effort and time.

Recently fixed up a Shure M97XE cartridge to a Thorens TD166 arm, only 2 bolts and no other adjustments for arc alignment. It was spot on and threw away that Thorens protractor aside, waste of time using it.

U mean that the Thorens arm has no adjustability for cartridges at all ?

What if someone put a different brand cartridge on it? Or is that tonearm is a match made in heaven for the shure M97 ?

I'm still on the Stevenson and no complains so far. The Stevenson geometry puts more bias to the inner grooves which is more prone to distortion and less bias to the outer grooves which are more forgiving. All in all a good compromise.

THIS arm (TP11 I think) in question is fixed and no avenue for overhang adjustment. Coincidently it was an ideal match.
No idea if it was another cartridge. I don't have a basketfull of others to experiment with.
