Tweeter dent

Post by Aki1980 on Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:35 pm

HI,

What happen if my tweeter is dented ?

Will it affect the sound or will it shorten the tweeter lifespan.

ya, it'll affect imaging. suddenly kurt cobain's vocals might become off-phase..just joking. now back to the problem, has anyone tried a keyboard vacuum cleaner? sticky tapes don't really do the job to certain tweeters
just curious...

if the tweeter dome is made of metal, it can be quite difficult to get it back to shape.
if it is made of cloth, then it can be done.

there was a time when the cloth dome of the tweeter was dented. i managed to slowly 'massage' it back to shape.

there was no loss in sound quality.

Tweeter dome and woofer dent are the worrying part especially when there are kids at home.
Somehow, kids are very attracted to the dome.
Some speakers (like the Eggleston) dont come with grilles. Challenging!!

If your metallic tweeter dome is slightly dented, you may want to try using cellotape . But you must place the cellotape on the dented part only and pull it out gently. I have tried this on many tweeters and it has worked successfully. If your tweeter dome is made out of cloth or paper, then you may use a low powered vacuum cleaner.
