The ArtChamber Quloos Digital Enhancer Empty The ArtChamber Quloos Digital Enhancer

Hi,

When I first wondered into this tread and saw the review by gtan, I was intriqued by it. I run a 2nd optional source of a transport and external dac. I was in fact thinking what other improvement can I achieved from my moderate set up of a yamaha cdx 1050 which operates as a transport and a diy tda 1543 dac in stack of 4 which was given by an ardent diy friend of mine (rather well known in the diy fratenity).

Having achieved some sonic improvement from attaching a dedicated digital cable namely the nordost silver shadow and an analysis plus solo crystal interconnect, the itch was getting a bigger part of me.

So, I plunged into this solidly built gadget which claimed by none other than Mr. Lee, the entrepreneur that all it does is cleaning up and correcting the data out from the transport. He added that it is not a reclocking nor a RFI buster. It is a passive device in nature. There is not much of info in the net also.

I received the device in mid August 2016. By now, it should have been burned-in though it should only take a couple of hours to do so as per advice by Mr. Lee.

There are 3 options of setting. I found that the the B2 would be considered the most dynamic in terms of soudstage, depth and naturalness compared to the set up without it. The A setting sounded lumpy and slow. The B1 option is forward with vivid sound, clear but lack the 3D effect of the B2 setting.

All in all, for RM410, it is not a high price to pay for the kind of improvement it provides. Surely not a night and day sensation.

In comparison to my 1st source (Naim cd5i Mk2), Naim renders a more precise rendition of the instruments being used and vocal is more upfront. It has more adrenalin to the overall sound. Whereas, quloos, it gives abit of a laid back presentation that might be very well the results of a NOS tda 1543 dac. In short, if I would give a rating of 10 to Naim, what quloos has done to my the other source, it would probably deserves 7. Not too bad a performance, compare to Naim for its reputation.

Associated equipments used can be considered neutral. The list is as follow:

Bryston BP 16 (pre amp)
Bryston 3Bst (2 units on vertical biamping)
ATC SCM11 (speakers)
Yamaha NS SW700 (Sub)
