Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios Empty Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios

Post by leecalkin Sat Sep 24, 2016 6:49 pm

He will message you saying he's interested in your item for sale. He will say he will take bus to Berjaya Times Square. And when comes the appointed time and date he may say that he took the wrong bus bought by his sister and ended in another bus station and the run around. He will also claim he forgotten his ATM card and does not have enough cash and a load of bull. This chap really gives A bad name to Singaporean. SO WATCH OUT FOR HIS MODUS OPERANDI.

Beware of this guy who appeared as a Singaporean but also carried the following mobile phone numbers:

65-8184 6660

65-8232 0188

017-7116717

65-85081818

He communicated me first on
9-4-2126
then 7-6-2016
again 17-6-2016

Using all the above number.  Very likely is the same Monkey.

I am keeping all his chat on my mobile, just in case anyone doubting me.

Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios Empty Re: Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios

Post by chkl026 Sun Sep 25, 2016 1:43 am

After reading the postings above, I went and checked my whatsapp and I want to add  that I also have one similar case like this, thru the no+65 81846660.

Many months back I was letting go my used amp and he msg me, similar story, he is coming to KL to buy somone else speakers and would like to have my amp as well. He will leave from BTS and asked me to pack my item and meet him there for Cod. Very pleasant discussion as everything going on decently, he asked me to show him the item photos and the video proving it is working.  However on the day ( Sunday morning) to transact , he suddenly said he still in sgp and missed the bus to kl due to he was drunk last night. After knowing his problem , I called off the discussion immediately.

Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios Empty Re: Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios

Post by kakibook Sun Sep 25, 2016 10:44 am

It happened to me years ago. It was a singaporean buyer.

I lug a heavy 30kg Yaqin KT 88 int amp and ended up waiting 30 minutes at Times square for nothing.

he would give all kinds of excuse to lure me to Time Square and even confirmed at Midnight 12am that he boarded the coach.

Well I was not alone, another guy with a DSLR also waiting for him with another soup story by the same buyer.

I was getting suspicious as how would he carry that heavy amp back to Singapore and he was well prepared with answers !!

In the past, I notice successful deal with Singaporean is via courier offices at JB.

Dear members,
Pinning down a might be scammer is every members responsibility,we cant always rely on the Moderators, they're normal people like us,they have their own job .We just need to flagged for awareness when something doesnt seems right, then hightlight to the Moderators to investigate for the benefits of all to make this hifi4sale forum a clean and safe forum.
After my 1st flagged,I have been coordinating closely with the Moderators on this scammer since December 2016.
Moderators have come into attention that this suspicious scammer that i flagged was a newly registered user with different locations(Indonesia,Singapore. ..etc)/
posting undervalued selling price/no value contacts number/updating sells to sold immediately after being flagged as scammer/keep changing profile pics(latest was a chinese guy photo)which might be extracted from Internet/ re-registering new username once posting has been flagged suspicious for scam ..etc.
In order to retaliate, scammer extracted most' not all of my past sales posting dated as far as 2014 to named and shame me as scammer.
I have bought/sold many items in hifi4sale and most of my buyers who came to collect personally at my place(Singapore)was welcome with lunch or dinner follow by sharings of audio, hifi experiences. ..we have since become good friends...thats the spirit in this hobby. If I am a scammer,I would have been flagged down many years ago..
It is not friendly to post my buyers username or contacts here,I have already sent the full list of buyers username/contacts for verification to the Moderators.I have also forwarded an uncomfortable PM which this scammer has sent me:' Dont try to save others'...what does this scammer means? Is he telling me that if by trying to save others,I will get myself into trouble?
No way! We dont bow down to Saturn.
We bow to our God !
Lastly,I exposed this might be scammer with good intentions in mind, the rest will be follow up by Moderators.
Cheers!

Post by mikey8811 Thu Mar 01, 2018 3:08 pm

Public Service Announcement:

Chinese New Year is coming to a close so I thought I would share a list of time wasters and untrustworthy folk who I have been unfortunate enough to endure in the past year:

1. Chan Kok Ming, 0164102885 - allegedly from Penang and KL. Looks like a dweeb from his Whatsapp pic. Likes to boast about his companies, assets and many hi fi systems. Big time waster, made many appointments to deal accompanied by lots of excuses and ultimately no show.

2. Kong brothers, 0167233886, 0193288102 - from Melaka. Again big time wasters. Lowballers who like to bargain like crazy and then no show. One of them came with his wife to my place, sat for a few hours swapping components and cables, said he would return next week to transact. Never heard from him again. Like to talk about their vintage gear circa 1990's. The other bargains incessantly over a small item, confirms and says he will get a friend to pick it up. Never heard from him again

3. Yong, 0168262626 - supposedly from Tawau. Has a Whatsapp pic of himself in some regalia - maybe Dato outfit. Likes to phone and talks lengthily about his vintage gear again circa 1990's. Confirms transaction, says will transfer funds in next hour and to pack up item for shipment. Didn't hear from him and on follow up says he decides not to go through. Big time waster.

If any of you have the misfortune to encounter these blokes, give them a wide berth. Truly not worth the hassle.

I have met guys from all walks of life on HF4S and there are truly some nice folk out there, many of whom I have made friends with.

Unfortunately, the aforesaid guys give Hi Fi buyers a bad name! With such untrustworthy behaviour, I feel sorry for those who have to deal with them on a daily basis business wise.

This is really funny. I was sent a link to this post

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/barclay-digital-transports-a-scam.5704/

and recalled timewasters No. 2 above.

One of the brothers came over to my place expressing an intention to purchase a DAC. He sat and listened to a stack of CD's for the whole afternoon. Then he went to his car to get a flashy looking transport to test. I obliged even though it meant a major moving around of cables and equipment. It was this brand Barclay that I had never heard of. It looked like it was solidly built but the sound was pedestrian at best. He kept oohing and aahing over it and said how much better it was than my transport. I nodded in agreement with him, after all he says he is about to buy a DAC I had listed for sale (he didn't in the end).

He kept saying it was such a good high end transport and he had purchased it for a steal that very day, driving from Melaka to Penang and then back to KL just for this baby.

Well, turns out it is a rebadged basic Marantz as per the detailed analysis in the link.

You gotta wonder at these suckers sometimes and the money they spend for schlock.

Mr. Kong, wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying your overpriced transport in ignorant bliss about what it truly is!

Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios Empty Re: Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios

Post by Hi-Fi 4 Sale Fri Feb 28, 2020 9:44 am

This week itself, we have been notified of potential scams. We use the term, 'potential', mainly because we are neither directly privy, nor in the payment/delivery chain of these transactions.

We and the hi-fi community need collective help to fight this. There can be no definite conclusion, unless we get sufficient data and experience from the community. Your voice counts to make this a safer place for hi-fi enthusiasts and hobbyists.

In the meantime, do add your experience with your seller here. This post is deliberately made sticky.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.

Those who have been cheated by this person before, kindly share the contact numbers and usernames in hifi4sale.  I believe fraudulent sellers like this one have many phone numbers, emails, and userids.  TQ

Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios Empty Re: Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios

Post by mofaz Mon Mar 09, 2020 9:09 am

His modus operandi is to ask for minimum deposit ..normally RM 500 and promised to courier using DHL (claimed his inlaw business has account with DHL so can ship at no additional cost) and will "trust" the buyer to pay the rest upon receiving the item...he even claimed that he was the one being cheated numerous times before ..even whatsapp allegedly police reports claiming being cheated...

Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios Empty Re: Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios

Post by Anwar Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:31 pm

Dear Admin,

To make it a bit more difficult for scammers and conman to operate their fraudulent operation in hifi4sale, I would like to suggest for any new user account created, let's wait 1 or 2 weeks before the new user can create/post an advertisement.  The conman can keep changing their userid in hifi4sale after their previous userid(s) blocked by admin, so not allowing new users to post advert immediately will help.

Thank you.

When I get conned by Thin Thang about a year ago, I immediately made police report.  Since the scammer used biz bank account, police refused to investigate further and asked me to file a claim with Consumer Tribunal.  Due to MCOs throughout last year, no action was taken by Consumer Tribunal.

I suggest you go to Court and submit Small Claims to the nearest Court.  Limit of claim is RM5k.  No need to use lawyer, but there are some small fees.

Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios Empty Re: Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios

Post by meraias Wed Jun 30, 2021 11:35 pm

Guys,
Same scammer still lurking around! this time in the WTB section.

MCO is a good time for them to act.

NAME:

Peter Loh Kim Hee (most likely his grand pa's bank account or something)
Bank Acccount
MAYBANK
101085050015

Telephone:
0166655266 (Just found out that someone posted the same number in the forum after the scam)
0172552463
0166359183

Some details about the scam:

This fella contacted me after he saw my WTB advertisement of an svs sb1000 sub

I spoke to him over the phone, he spoke like an audio enthusiast, made up stories that sounds real.
DEFINITELY CHINESE, fluent in both chinese and english

He sent me an svs sub photo, he said he had 2 of them.
I did some googling, and found the same photo on an expired UK audio mart advertisement  Buyer/Seller BEWARE Scenarios 1f494

also told me he would pay a RM300 insured DHL jumbo boxed extra padding shipping for me, and he even sent me a blurry DHL generated pickup email "proof".  No

which contains the following address:
8 Jalan Kingley's 2A
Kingsley's Hills
46570 Subang Jaya
Selangor

Googled the address, couldnt find Jalan Kingley having 2A road  scratch

Be careful everyone, google is your best friend.

do a few back ground checks for your safety if in doubt, every info can be googled.

stay safe everyone.
