Asia Sound is the local xindak dealer but they dun carry the DAC 5 nor the DAC 3 or DAC 8. Yep, I asked them, and they dun intend to carry these products anytime soon.

One will have to buy online if one wishes to procure this piece of gear. It is available on ebay and also at cattylink.

Yeap.. no demand as well.

Focusing on what is able to generate revenue ....makes business sense.

Xindak website shows the City Square address for Asia Sound.....

Finally received the Teralink X2 after shipment delay in China, also included in the package a silver wire coaxial made by the Famous cable supplier in China.

Teralink x2 has 1ppm clock with BNC, coaxial and optical connection.

I was a bit skeptical about the product but when listen, it really made a difference which is quite obvious.

Being a digital transport, I had the advantage of playing 150 audiophile collection at the ease of my finger tips. I hook up thru the notebook, which I will later provide with a yaocoo remote.

rightout from the foobar player, it already sounded better than my marantz cd63 modded with JZ-1 clock.

next upgraded the driver to the latest and using external power supply, i can hear some slight improvement.

Well now I can enjoy digital music.

Teralink X2 and BB 1704U-K only supports upto 24/96 in oversampling mode. I am not fans of upsampling.

I found the sound to be better improved with WASAPI for Win 7.

Instead of foobar, they are other choices which I am yet to explore. Does anyone know which player support Ipod like album art with cuesheet and APE supports.

I think everyone mileage is different. My mod is to simplify: direct tap the digital processor IC data out stright to DAC, I switch back and forth compare to original Coax out and RCA out. I found new dimension in my listening experience after that.

Cost of it: A DAC kits from China (in 3 digit), 1 good cap to replace power supply cap to IC, some soldering, a lot of time spend on reading and asking in forum and a lot of fun.

for DAC troubleshooting, it is slightly more tricky but not difficult.

with the schematic that u have, check the voltage bfore plug in any ic.

check the pin connection. How to know if there is a dead IC? check the receiver, clock signal and digital filter. have a mnual and check the test signal or have a spare one and try. good luck.

Finally finish the battery mod of hiface. When I open the hiface casing, I was a little regret. The components are so tiny (SMD) and it looks almost impossible to work on it. After much sweat finally got it done. the works are very rewarding. still need to finish up the connectors.

Did you disconnect the 5V feed from the USB voltage line now that you are using 3.3V battery to power the hiface? Digital components are always tiny.

I would prefer power isolation from mobo at the USB header and feed the 5V from the USB connector. No welding required.

How is your result using battery?

I don't own a hiface so can't compare. I only have the ESI Juli@ and the Xonar Essence ST.

This is probably a better way to work on the hiface:

Post by chua55 on Sun Jul 04, 2010 11:25 pm

I have diy a 1541a or 1543 (in array) before. for the 1541a, I had tried NOS, 4x or 8x and even DEM reclocking.

NOS and 8x has different character. It is very obvious when the os is switched to 8x and back to NOS. It all depends on one's taste. Some may like it 4X.

On my DAC, I can set it NOS, 2x, 4x, 8x. 8x is the best to me.

Ahhh dac....as for the names I would say 'ahhh forget it....'

This is the risk of buying china dac....you'll get some faulty chips....not to mention so many fake pcm/tda chips out there..specially exotic one like the pcm63...not to mention some circuit flaws mainly because the china manufacturer want to save cost.....

one situation i've encounter is when a china dac employ 3.3vdc to a 2.5vdc chips and some how it over heat and cause failures to the whole circuit....

for a good china dac i recommends something based on ciruss logic chips. this is a pretty new chip with a good performance. so no need to tipu tipu since got everywhere....my 2 1/2 cent...

yes indeed lite dac is very good dac for money that you spend....but all this just down to personal taste lah...some like the naturalness sound of the TDA chip but i found it bit less dynamic compared to the cirrus chip dac. but on second though the cirrus chip sounds less natural and little more 'synthetic'.....tepuk dada tanya selera....

Re: DAC Opinions

Post by wck on Sun Sep 26, 2010 1:29 pm

Hi,

I own several DAC(s) and have recapped them to bring them back to their former glory.

One example is at http://myoldvintagehifi.blogspot.com/2010/05/musical-fidelity-tubalog-dac-using.html with feedback from a hifi enthusist who heard it and placed an Echoloft advert to purchase his own afterwards!!!

Even so, I find little to distinguish a well designed solid state DAC which has been recapped properly when compared to a DAC with valve output stage. I have several well known DAC(s) in my collection and have only started posting items which I have taken out from storage (every few months).

Re: DAC Opinions

Post by wingman on Tue Feb 08, 2011 9:26 pm

Hi All....

Anyone heard of this DAC...ORB Audio Question

url=http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=54&u=14554080][/url]

The Write Up :

The new ORB Jade-2 is a superbly made DAC with a wealth of features and high specification to meet the demands of audiophiles and headphone audiophiles alike.

No matter if you use it as a stand alone DAC for your audio system, or connected to your Computer for use as a high-end headphone amplifier, the Jade-2 will meet your needs and then some!

Unlike many DAC manufacturers, ORB have taken a different path by not using the same old DAC chip seen in other DACs, instead they are relying on a Japanese made DAC chip from Asahi Kasei, and this chip can handle data rates up to 24bit/192kHz. Which means, the optical and coaxial inputs are 24bit/192kHz capable, and the USB port 24bit/96lHz.

Along with the digital inputs, there is a line level input to feed a legacy device into the headphone amplifier, an amplifier capable of driving 600ohm headphones with ease.

Finally, the USB port on the front panel can be used to playback music files from a USB stick, with capacities reaching the sky these days, the ORB can be your only music source as well.

Specifications

* Load Impedance of Headphone Amplifier 16 ~ 600Ω
* Input Sensitivity / 2V/47kΩ impedance
* 16Ω load rated output 1100mW + 1100mW
* Load 32Ω 560mW + 560Mw
* Load 64Ω 280mW + 280mW
* Load 300Ω 60mW + 60mW
* Load 600Ω 30mW + 30mW
* Frequency Response 20Hz ~ 20kHz +0 dB,-0.5dB, fs = 44.1kHz (EIAJ)
* USB 0.018% total harmonic distortion below, fs = 44.1kHz (EIAJ)
* 0.018% or less optical, fs = 44.1kHz (EIAJ)
* Coaxial below 0.018%, fs = 44.1kHz (EIAJ)
* RCA 0.004% or less, fs = 44.1kHz (EIAJ)
* S/N over 127dB Hi, fs = 44.1kHz (EIAJ)
* More than 120dB Dynamic Range, fs = 44.1kHz (EIAJ)
* 0.1Ω Output Impedance
* Headphone output (standard stereo jack φ6.3)
* Dimensions 238W × 317D × 96H mm
* Weight approx 4kg

The difference now, a rubber washer is placed in between the Tranny and body of the equipment. While the tranny is still maintaing the contact with the body of the equipment via the bolt & nut.

Why, i believe "transformers" have a bit of vibration and the rubber is sort of damping of the vibration. ( a layman's perspective ) Correct me if I am wrong.

The rubber washer gives it a lift as shown in the diagram below:

As for the damping, I have stuck the damping material on the cover, the main body area, CD chasis. ( all internal)

Damping materials from "Btothers".

The above mods did not cost me an arm or a leg either.

For me personally, it's a positive outcome, there is "weight" to the music compared to before the modification.

Cheers

Wingman, thanks for sharing this. I was thinking of doing it for a while already but never found the time but now that you've done it and have found the mod to add weight to the sound, I think I will get it done too. But instead of using rubber washers which are quite hard, the vibrations from the transformer might still find it's way to your equipment chassis. I was thinking of using "eatrhquake pads" from Daiso. Forum legend SFLam once mentioned these pads for equipment support in his blog too.

Hi Bimmerman...

Glad to share...and u got a point....something softer...to absord that minute vibrations.

Anyway..i have done this simple RM1 dollar mod on my brothers CA CDP and Marantz Amp and the sonics are positive from my brothers perspective. Another pair of ears to concur. Smile

Its...something like this...and its RM5 can be found in most Daiso Budget Chains Stores. Is this what you are referring too ?

Do give your feedback on the how's and the sonics.

Thanks for sharing.
