The Future of TV - 3D LED

Post by WongKN on Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:10 pm

Apparently it was already being demo'ed at Harvey Norman the Curve two months ago but it is today that I actually got to experience Samsung's latest 3D LED TV. I saw two clips, one a proper 3D Blu-Ray movie (Monsters vs Aliens) and the other a simulated one derived from an Astro Sports Channel Broadcast (a track & field even in Berlin 2009). All I can say is 'WOW !!!'. This IS the ABSOLUTE future of TV. Having watched 3D TV, it is difficult to accept regular '2D' movie, no matter how good the source, as state of the art anymore. The state of the art IS 3D movie. I highly recommend anyone who have not experienced it yet to drop at BEST DENKI in KLCC to experience it. I believe that like me, your expectation from HT/AV will NEVER EVER be the same after this. I shudder to think of how great the experience would be, to watch good movies in 3D and with good surround sound !!

Me, I am hoping and eagerly waiting for KLAVS 2010. I hope other manufacturers will follow suit with their version of 3D TV by that time. It is also 'interesting' timing for me as I finished paying for my Panasonic Plasma late last year and I am quite fed-up with my Samsung BDP-1400 Blu-Ray player.....

Yes, you have to. They are solid glasses making us look like we are MIBs. So you get to look cool at the same time !!

I saw the Philips version of 3D TV last year. That one no need to wear glasses. They have a laminated layer on the screen to deliver the 3D effect, much like a 3D photo. But the picture and effects quality....

No prices announced yet. Samsung just wants to blitz the japanese, to show off that they are now the leader in new flat screen TV technology. Next month is the official launch. This year's KLAVS should be an interesting one !

Hmmmm,

Maybe I should hold on to my purchase. Had actually set my mind on the Panny plasma but when I went to SenQ yesterday, none of the Panny plasma is on display. A quick check with the sales person confirms that Panasonic has discontinued the current plasma screens and they are awaiting a new launch soon.

However, there is a current promotion on Samsung LCD where a 46" LCD model 46***550 is going for RM4899. Sounds tempting.

My house will be ready in probably 1 month's time, so, can still afford to wait for another 3 weeks....hmmmmm ..... decisions decisions decisions

i've not expereince it yet but i suppose "presence" is the word. i'd like to see pc games and internet browsing on 3d. monters leaping out of your monitor trying to bite your head off... makes you jump out off your seat/chair. heart pounding.

It's difficult to explain. Do not judge using prior experience of 3D movies and such. Samsung seemed to have made a good step forward in realism in the 3D picture. The amazing thing is that they have even developed a system to convert standard movies to 3D !! For those who are considering a new TV, I do feel it is worthwhile to wait. If possible, wait until KLAVS.

If the difference is not much, then it is worth waiting.

What if the new 3D tv cost as much as a plasma when it was first launch (in the region of 25k)?

I recently saw AVATAR in 3D and it was an experience - almost like in a theme park ride. If 3D-TV can be similar in quality, wow!

Otherwise can't imagine regular folks putting on glasses watching TV

The latest 3D is different from the current '3D' crop in BD tech that uses those 'dinosaur' red and green glasses which alters the colour of the film.

New gen is using 'polarized' glasses (nice design too as WongKN pointed out) CEDIA 09 was the launching pad by these giants followed by CES 2010.

Samsung will be taking the lead to launch it here. Expect Panasonic and the rest to be hot on trail. Avatar BD will be release with the latest 3D tech.

AFAIK, Panasonic and Sony will be launching new gen BDP with dual HDMI outputs (v 1.4). Reason : no avr that supports 1.4 yet. Hence, you have to connect the output to a 3D FHD display panel and the other into the av receiver to get lossless audio.

I am surprised that the price is not at 'premium' range when it was being announced in US.

Here's a link for more info on the new 3D tech :
