Is it necessary to delete price once SOLD?
Hi all,
I always ask this question : why has he got to delete the price? - whenever I clicked on a just sold item which interests me only not to find its value - sigh ...
. One cannot be logging on 24hrs to monitor the posts as it appears.
I always leave my original asking price intact - upon selling the item, I just edit the title to add "SOLD". The price was no secret, you posted it before, you may have sold it at that price or lower, that's between you and the buyer, nobody is going to ask you any further.
One advantage of having the prices is for gauging the market price (in Malaysia) for an audio product, especially older, vintage or rarer ones. After a few years the database may contain many sold items and the data would be more complete if it included the prices (RM). Sometimes one may like to perform a search for a certain brand, model xx and check the prices for budgeting, or likewise someone planning to get rid of some inherited audio gear may get information on a suitable asking price. Sometime or other, the price is an important factor whether in a pursuit, a purchase, a decision to upgrade or downgrade, or a decision to sell.
I am for - NOT deleting the prices after SOLD, what is your opinion?

CL...
I concur with your views. I for one would not remove the $$ value. It would be a reference point for potential sellers to gauge the market value of the item they intend to sell.
But end of the day its the sellers perogative to remove the $$$ value.
Cheers

Re: Is it necessary to delete price once SOLD?
ahh... difficult one. its frustrating coz these prices could help us gauge the value of items. i'm for "not deleting" too. but sometimes we can't blame sellers for deleting prices to protect buyers. especially buyers who pay hefty amounts for postage or drive all the way interstate to buy an item.
so if a buyer had bought something that didn't match his/her system then most likely he/she would have to resell it, at a slightly higher price, to cover postage/petrol/tol/time ie. the "cost" of acquiring those items. its only natural for them to do so. not to mention dealers/traders who come in and grab goodies for resale. nothing wrong with that. its normal business practice for them to buy and sell. i really respect those salespersons/dealers who spend hours setting up systems and doing long-hour demos. they work hard for the money man, considering the air-con/electrcity bills, salesperson commissions and crazy rental prices these days...

Zenn Audio, a second hand dealer in S'pore do keep an archive of items sold with the price intact. http://www.gabrieltan.addr.com/speakers%20archiv.htm
But then prices can differ for similar equipments depending on condition. I am for keeping the prices as advertised for reference.

There's is always going to be two sides of the coin to these types of queries, the dealers and the individual sellers.

Agreed with keeping the listed price as I for one would like to know the average cost of any item.

I agree regarding this. Is quite frustrating when want to research something. Then have to rely of memory after the price been removed.

Re: Is it necessary to delete price once SOLD?
yeah wingman. both sides also got their point. maybe get more active in this forum and get to know more members. then we could always refer to them about the listed price. sharing is caring ma : )i was just wondering if some genius had made a "camping" software that checks on new posts and saves a copy. one that could act as "us" camping in forums. there already exist an app that self-bumps threads. wicked sick!
Re: Is it necessary to delete price once SOLD?
I'm not a seller but a potential buyer. I prefer that the prices are left intact. It's important for me to know the market value of the audio equipment before engaging serious negotiation with a potential seller. Just merely put "SOLD" on the Title will do nicely. IMHO.
