i suggest changing gears frequently. this one not like upgraditits. this one changesounditis, or tukarbunyitis. the general term would be itchybuttockitis. i have this illness too.

low, mid, high end? doesn't matter as long as its no end. that's the fun part.

Re: Y the hi -end system No the end

Post by drife on Sat Apr 10, 2010 1:27 am

same story here bro. i don't own supersystems, not even mid-end ones coz can't afford. but even if i could have audionotes driving avantgardes or VTLs whacking 7 feet dynaudios, i'd prolly sell them off in a couple of months time for something else that might be of lower specs...

but i do have a few budget systems for different genres of music. coz i believe there's no "one" system for all. mix and match, get best rojak. hehe.

to keep the boredom away we gotta spread the investement. well, the best system is no "fixed" system at all.

everyday different sound gets your senses going. the traders/salespersons are enjoying this kinda luxury.

mr. bulbman, if you could, maybe visit a jamming studio or goto a concert, small gig or jazz club. see if it gives you new ideas or input... hope that helps.

Wanna give up hifi??? It's easy!!! Just do as I did. I went and bought the best digital front end I could afford. In my case a Mark Levinson. Then paired it to my Krell and Sonus Faber with amazing results. Then after 1 month, the upgrade itch came back and the Krell and Sonus Faber were not good enough for the Mark Levinson. What now??? Goldmund Telos? Vitus? Grand Utopia? I'm way way way out of my depth now... So, sell the Levinson and be blissfully happy with my original setup. And focus on sending my kids to university for a change. That's the way to do it!

Bimmerdude!!! Welcome back. Hey, you should really keep that Levinson 36s. It's the best to come out of Madrigal before the Harman groupies spoiled the party and killed the Levinson sound. Strongly urge you to keep it.

there wont be any end to it, just like women buying shoes and handbag...very very itchy bontok one...

to end it...is to have nothing at all...like that day when I sent my AVR for service, I only found out that my TV speakers ain't that bad anyway (for astro :p)

Well, the Levinson is to sum it up in one word amazing! But I feel it may do better partnered with class A monoblocks. But I could be wrong.

You're dead wrong! You're using a Krell integrated right??? Play around with interconnects and speaker cables. Your Sonus Fabers are not outclassed by the Levinson. You're almost there bimmerman, trust me on this one.

Well Landy, i've already posted up the Levinson for sale. If there are no takers then I'll keep it but I really could use the money for my kids. I'm using Kimber KCAG RCA to connect the Levinson to my Krell. What do you think?

KCAG may not be a good match Bimm. The KCAG is mondo detailed but can be a little lean. The Levinson is accurate and real and does not exaggerate. Partner the Levinson and the KCAG and you might end up with overly lean, accurate and detailed. Kimber select might be a better match.

Yeah Landy, the Kimber Select was always my interconnect of choice but the cost is very prohibitive. It's high end stuff and I don't have high end money. Hmmm... where have you been all my life. Should have married you and live a high end life. Embarassed

Bulbman

Simple rule of thumb, "Be Happy / contended with What you have"

Either you want or you don't ? It's entirely up to you. There should be a break even point, after which you sit back and enjoy the music out of your investment.

Sometimes stepping away from your passion ( this case being your hifi gear / music ) would re-kindle the desire again. "No"..don't sell your investment keep it and "No" to overspending. There would come a time that your passion would re-ignite.

cheers

Bulbman............hmmmmm.............just a suggestion la.......go get some hifi kaki u can mix with then go teh tarik with them, talk talk talk and talk then u may be able to get that uneasy feeling out of your body system then u may be able to get those unwanted sonics out of your hifi system.

One thing I experienced is if u go listen to other systems often enough u may finally be able to appreciate whatever u may already have and may not want to crave for other worldly hifi materials. U may be contented just "listen to the music"!!! And be very happy!!!

Once u get that 3D effects in your systems, the front wall seems to disappeared, so are the side walls.......u get a great feeling u are in a vast space, say a auditorium, a concert hall, jazz bar, etc.,etc., u should be able to enjoy that music at your own time. Nevermind if other visitors can't perceived the 3D effect, the sense of space but instead ask where is the bass slam, why not loud wan! nevermind that, perhaps they don't know how to listen to music, but know how to listen to the sound!!!!!! consider yourself different from them, then u may not sound/feel boring.......your visitors are the ones that
may be the boring lots!! Not u la! The more the people make a bee line to your place to listen to music, then the less boring u will be!!! Finally!!!!!

If u have talk all u want to talk, done what u wanted done, seem and experienced what's there to be tried, and still felt bored with what u do, then u could have the ultimate system setup up oledi! Then invited those who have not done what u have done, to come listen to your setup! There may be lots of thing to learn from u!
