HDMI Cable

Post by thinaka on Mon Apr 19, 2010 1:00 am

I am currently using an AV system which cost around RM10,000. I am into music and home theatre. I am thinking of investing in some rather expensive QED HDMI cables. There is also some contrasting opinion that expensive HDMI cable does not do any good in enhancing the audio and video. Would appreciate some feedback from readers.

Regards.

If you can afford a 10k system then spending another few hundreds on HDMI cables should not be a problem to try out yourself. I'm not gonna go into QED cables better than generic one but I do like all my QED HDMI cables. They are sturdy and well built. Not to mention they come in my favorite color purple

Arremie, you and your purple fetish.

You must also like Barney, the purple dinosaur.

I read VDH Flat 1.4 HDMI cable is among cheap & excellent HDMI cable but not cheap in Malaysia. I may try compare VDH Flat with my oem Pioneer HDMI cable during KL AV show or at dealer shop. Hopefully no clone VDH Flat in the market. Anybody know the price for 1.5/2m VDH Flat HDMI cable in Malaysia.

For what it's worth, do get a good reliable or 'branded' (if you so wish) cable. I had one of the earlier 'freebie' cable when buying my lcd but ended the the metal portion of the connector 'koyak/kopak' and lodged itself inside the HDMI socket affraid.

Tried to pry it out but cannot dislodge, nasib baik got other socket that can be used. The socket/connector has been an issue with a number of hi-fi reviewers, read it at least once in Stereophile, as to it's flimsy connection. I only saw a Wireworld HDMI with two side screws ala PC connector. So just be careful with the freebie ones.. Very Happy

Cheers,

zb

Beware of those cheap-crap brandless HDMI cables eventhough they might be rated to "HDMI 1.3" specs (or so they claim on the labels). These are usually sold at Low Yat computer shops.

Once used one of these "generics" to hook up between my TV and the BluRay player. It turned out to be really problematic. Picture freezes, garbled displays. etc. etc. Got fed-up, went to hi-way Laser to get a decent Audioquest HDMI cable... problem solved.

Like all things in this world, u get what u pay for. Razz

You may consider any Chord Company Hdmi cable especially the latest Chord Active Silver Plus hdmi cable ( I'm using now from previous excellent Chord Silver Plus ) which will greatly and definitely impress you by its video and especially audio quality ( better than my previous Chord Silver Plus and QED brands ).
