I bet you should look for CMY as they are authorized dealer for Naim in M'sia.
I ain't quite sure your first question. They are no specific rules to 'maintain' them. All naim equipments are built to last unless they are being sabotaged. All you need to do is let them powering on and avoid using high inductance and capacitance speakers cables. They also suggest once it is properly installed, forget the black boxes and enjoy the music. This is what I was told by naim UK!
Cheers.

Naim Audio is durable.
Only recap when is distortion.
My NAC 12 serial no 8xx is still working good.

Good. Equally interested the speed of delivery. Last time I received mine in approx 10 days with 2 or 3 days from KL to Kch.
Yes, the price is at bargain. I will get the sampler 8 soon. Recording is top-notch.

Re: Naim Audio - discussion thread
The manufacturer recommends every 6 months the equipments should be "serviced" by its owner, ie unplugs and re-plugs all the cables to maintain the cleanliness of the contacts and get rid of the statics accumulated.... something like that.
I think if you've a stack of components, it will be a hassle.

Wow, I didn't really do that. But sometimes swap place or exchange with my bro then only have the chance to unplug and plug it back. As all the plug at the component still very shinny.

Re: Naim Audio - discussion thread
At one time, contact cleaner was popular for use in cleaning the RCA plugs. There were two approaches - the use of the consumer type contact cleaners or even video head cleaners as found in hardware or electrical shops (I think places like ACE has them) and then there are also the hifi accessories (I remember one brand named contakt or something like that). I used to simply get the normal electrical contact cleaners from the hardware shop and I remember cleaning the rca plugs until they really shine, especially those 24-carat plated ones. I felt the method of unplug and re-plug can scar the rca plug surfaces.

Still Naim Audio factory recommendation is plug and unplug for every 6 months. They are not fussy on 'snake oils'. Maybe all their plugs and terminals are non 24-karat gold coated ones, hahaha.... However, they do not stop naim users to use "those" liquid cleaner as some of them are found to be harmful. Instead cable dressing for them is more important as their cables are all "unshielded". Making sure no touching between power and signal cables. Another one is speakers cables, NACA5 should be arranged in such a way to avoid coiling sequence to ensure low inductance. Other than that, they ask you to enjoy the music :-)

Re: Naim Audio - discussion thread
Yes, I understand Naim do have their own set of recommendations and it would be wise to follow them I would think.
Actually a number of manufacturers do recommend unplugging then replugging at regular intervals instead of recommending cleaners because most do not make cleaners and they usually don't recommend other people's things, probably due to commercial reasons or something. Still, many people have reported benefits from using proper cleaners though it is of course wise to be cautious. At one time there was even a popular gel-like liquid one uses to enhance the plug to socket surface contact - I forgot the brand. Then later people says it gunks up the contact surface. So I suppose the best is to use the good old mechanical method. I remember back in my younger days when I would regularly do this ritual on every rca sockets in the amp. So I will happily admit to having tried a lot of things, including using the contact enhancing stuff.
On another matter, I'd always felt that the motto "enjoy the music" should be taken as a given, i.e. it is assumed that after all is said and done, all hifi owner's ultimate intention at the end of the day is to enjoy the music. I think it would be sad to have to constantly remind oneself to enjoy the music, so Naim is certainly giving out some good advice ! hahahahah !!

Hey bro,

I am afraid only at Naim HQ, Salisbury UK will they service or recap your old naim gears. Once recap your gears are as good as new. Maybe you can contact CMY for the arrangement.

Forgot to apologize to all that I hijack this thread.
Mikapoh,
Actually I am back from somehwere to Kuching. To my best knowledge most places do have qualified agents to perform at least checking, servicing or even recap? Or is there a nearest place to perform recap?
Recap is count by cumulative years of serving or once the gear hit 8-10 years?
Thanks.

Normally it is 10yrs or so the gear will need to be serviced. I do not know there is any authorized service centre in M'sia. Maybe someone can help.

Re: Naim Audio - discussion thread
By the way anyone recap your Naim gear before? I am quite worry if we have to send the amp all the way to UK, which will cost dearly at first place. How about taxation bringing it back to us again? I do believe there are some nearer service agents to Malaysia. Or most Naim lover keep upgrading to avoid recap their set?
Thanks for sharing.

Please invite me to audit Nac52 if I happen to visit your place.
I bought a simple Nac 32.5ed with Hicap on March and Nap140 on April this year but toying with 821 upgrade card on and off. I don't think I will upgrade because owning it with different purpose. I love the solid sleeve design, the size, and of coz, the cb polish. Of course, much cheaper then your 52.

I have a Eastland Sound cd player doing transport duties, feeding a Buffalo dac II
going into a home made valve pre-amp, feeding a Vincent power amp, into a Maggie MMG.
Also use Musical Fidelity V3 headphone amp and Sennheisser hd650 cans.
No Naim, i have been reading here as i want to upgrade my amp to one that better drives my maggie, and was wondering about Naim, as i do place great importance on PRAT. Still undecided between Naim and Condrad Johnson valve power amp.
Warm regards,
Bal.

Re: Naim Audio - discussion thread
Hi Bal,
I was using tube amps for long times. Tube amps are so interesting that it never stop from tubes rolling and fancy sound caps upgrade, bla bla bla, . I hope you agree but for me, I ended up with Naim in first place because I am not good in understanding transistor circult. Therefore it put a stop to my internal upgrades venture. Basically Naim emphasis on their close systems from B (amps) to Y (speaker cable). So you can concerntrate on A (cd player) and Z (speaker) to complete your setup. Besides, Naim have a great headphone amp too!
I had spent months reading, exploring Naim before settle down with it then any other brands. Eventually all paid off and worth every penny.
I see plentiful of local using Naim here. I believe they will be helpful enough to guide you thru.
Happy New Year.

Hi all,
Would a common computer power cord good enough to the original one? Or should I go to CMY to source for original, which by all means plenty claims no different to common type.

No fix rule, use your own ears to judge, the fact is Naim cabtree plug is made of good material should enhance contactivity leading to conductivity. in hifi ,everything does change its sound to which is correct or not still a very subjective personal taste.
If you like the 'new" sound so be it...i bet you ..even you put a durian on top of your player also alter the sounds..try to see...is it practical? your mileage may varies.
i onced seen a guru..who who prefer to tweak his room with many crystals ball around..yes it does make the sounds very sweet and round..sounds much more harmony

Wow.... What is Naxo?.. I didn't know that there's a Naxo in Naim land....
The only Naxo I know of is a French pro sound brand that produces awesome speakers for concert venues, PA systems and recording studios...
