Studio monitors with hifi preamp

Post by sanfan on Tue Jul 13, 2010 4:26 pm

Hi all,

First of all I would like to say that I'm still learning about hifi and threfore I'm still greenhorn at this new hobby.

I currently have a Yamaha C-45 preamp and a M-35 Poweramp (very old stuff) with somekind of yamaha speakers. I've been toying around with the idea of of using ACTIVE studio monitors with a hifi preamp. I would like to know if anyone has any experience with this setup. I know that generally Studio monitors are flat sounding but they produce good and clear detail.

Has anyone tried this setup and what should I expect if I go ahead with this setup.

Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

Good, cheap, great value for money, try Behringer Studio Monitors. They got both active and passive versions. Only problem is that there is no proper dealer here in KL. Some parallel importers around Jln Pasar or Cheras, the last i heard.

Some people pay 10x the price and buy a Naim system just to get the same effect. Just IMO of course... Razz

Oh, the official Behringer distributor is AV Electronics, they have a shop in Jalan Imbi called Ultimate Music ... can try them. Yeah, the Behringer Truth range is popular with sound engineers here.

I've actually bought a pair of Kurtzweil active studio monitors and connected it to my preamp... Love the sound. Lacks bass but very nice and crisp sound.

AV electronics appoints dealer. The Pasar Roads are their dealers... I can give you good pricing if you are intrested.... The Truth series is good budget series btw it comes with balanced connection....Get a good balanced CD player and some Sato or belden cable solder yourself neutrik or switchcraft XLR Connector(Male and female of course, if gay problem What a Face ) and you are done...Great Sound...
