Re: ELAC speakers
Hi...Azri,
ELAC speaker sound very presentable. I like the high and mid part. Very detail and focusing.

Re: ELAC speakers
I think you can find better alternatives to Elac at the same price range. I don't like them... metallic sounding (although I do admit that I am generalising somewhat). Nevertheless, I still stand by my opinion that you can do better for the same money.

Re: ELAC speakers
Hi Azri,
I'd auditioned the FS247 & FS248 recently in respective branch in A&L.
These speakers are quite transparent and rendered a formidable depths, mainly because of the third generation Heil's air motion jet tweeter. With the accuracy of the mid band, and the build quality, they won the best buy speaker award from Stereo Sound Japan magazine in 2009-2010.
The FS247 is 12k and the FS248 is 19k, and the FS249 is 22k.

Re: ELAC speakers
thanks for the input guys. appreciat it a lot. mind telling what drive the speakers during the auditions? can it take metal music? does the previous model like fs67 or 68 no good? its does not the jet tweeter but its certainly cheaper than fs247. twice on 247 i think.
mr. lavender, really that expensive on 247 & 248?

Re: ELAC speakers
Hi Azri,
I did owned Elac speakers before. If I'm not mistaken the model is EL 81 (bookshelf but big which have 2 6.5" mid drivers and 1 tweeter). Its an old model of Elac, can consider as vintage. They are using coated paper cone drivers. One good thing about this model is that the tweeter are in the middle between the 2 woofers. The alignment of tweeter and woofers were perfectly placed.
Now lets to talk about the sound quality. For me even its an old speaker but yet have ambarashed many of new generation of branded speakers. We as a hifi fans, have group and colleges that sharing same hobbies. There were one time when my frenz bring his Epos ES 11 to do AB test with my Elac.So sorry to say to owners of Epos that my frenz was suprised and depressed with his Epos performance.I'm not saying that my Elac is better or Epos is bad, but some presentation was missing when driving with Epos.No doubt it has big & tight bass where's my Elac just ordinary yet controlled bass. But the sweetness of vocal and soundstaging of my Elac outperformed Epos.
Off course there are pro and cons of both speakers but overall we concluded that Elac is the winner.FYI I tested it with my Lecson Stereo Plus 40 watts (pure) made in UK and source was Marantz CD63SE with Promotheus DAC,vinyl was driven by my Thorens TD160 Super/Syrinx PU3 Silver wired arm.
But again this is very subjective, personal taste is most matter. No matter how expensive is the speaker and how good is the review,if u don't like it then don't buy. Many times a moderate speakers if match perfectly with your amp/source/cables can head to head or fight with over priced speakers and that's is my philosophy until now.
TQ

Re: ELAC speakers
does fs68 a good buy? price tag is around rm3300 plus postage. how much will it cost in malaysia? i saw one fs247 but its too expensive, its like rm7200, slightly new. but fs68 does not comes with jet tweeter, its just that twin woofer characteristic is good & its mids & highs are totally separated in an enclosure..

Re: ELAC speakers
Hi Azri,
I saw this ad. http://www.penhometheatre.com.au/elac.htm.
Don't know whether still exist, the price is around RM2860.
I didn't audition FS68, but with the silk dome tweeter, mid, twin woofer, and Elac quality, IMO, hardly can beat by others.
But, if you look for airiness, better soundstage, FS247 price in Aust. is worth buying.

Re: ELAC speakers
fs247 is $4k & thats rm11k plus minus. could not believe elac can be that expensive. but seeing its 4 ohm nominal impedance, it trigers the fun. more workhorse for the amp. thanks for the link, is that price cheap or reasonable?

Re: ELAC speakers
i own a pair of fs 247 . small size floorstander that sounded good for its price and money. everything to offer from top to bottom end . can really blast if it needed to . but need careful matching of equipment and cables. need heavy run in - blast as loud as you can , then everything will come to life .

Re: ELAC speakers
Hi Azri,
If you can get FS247 for RM7.2k compared with RM11k here, You may consider to
buy ,it is cheap; The price for FS68 is around 4.4k here , but if you like it ,the
afore link shown the last pair RM2860 or what you got 3.3k is dirt cheap as far
as 3 way concern, for stereo and AV surround.

Re: ELAC speakers
A-B compare the two models and make a final move, you will be no regret at all Azri.
Probably you may upgrade to another level of Elac model in the future, say 210CE or FS249, then you'll get the larger scale, articulate sound, and airy image up to 50KHz.

Re: ELAC speakers
ELAC FS 248 - which i just upgraded - is greater sounding than 247 . more body and air / soundstage + excellant bass. did tested the FS 249 but seem power hungry unless you willing to foot out a more powerful amp - 300 watts RMS. otherwise stick to 247 0r 248. both highly enjoyable at this price range. never regret selling my proac response . frankly speaking before the 200 series i never like elac spk.

yes u are right - uncle vic . if you like to thunder down one roof use velodyna 12 ins subwoofer value at RM 12K - made in USA version. Always never believe having floorstander matching a good subwoofer until now . Hee Hee .

Different person with different preferences........and most likely different ears will hear different sound.........views may differ hence.......some with the elac floorstanders will perceive enuf bass while other owners may think otherwise.
