Wilson audio speakers

Post by Lamkochai on Sat Jul 17, 2010 2:12 pm

Hi all. Planning to upgrade yet again my speakers. Quite impressed with wilson audio shasa speakers which i recently auditioned. whilst the dealer say this speaker can be driven by small powered valve amp (mine is 40w class A single ended) and it has relatively high sensitivity of 94, I believe this speaker needs a lot of power as i usually see ppl driving it using high power amp

Any one has experience using this speaker with valve amp?

Congratulations, Wilson Audio still remains my dream speaker although I don't really have space for it in my room even if I could afford them. I was told that the driver surrounds for WA speakers need to be replaced every 3 years or so because they deteriorate very quickly - Is that true?

BTW, it's Sasha, but I just call it Darth Vader because the top is shaped just like his helmet.

Sasha W/P is the replacement for Wilson Watts/Puppy which is double the price of Sophia

Latest Sophia is Sophia 3

Better audition Sophia before you buy as it is a different speaker from Sasha

One of my most memorable listening experience was with a pair of Sophia 2 at Perfect Hifi. Mindblowing! Where can you buy a used Sophia 2 anyway?

lamkochai... It is Sasha, not Shasa. The guy who named it must either be a fan of Sasha Baron Cohen or Sasha Grey.

Although some of Wilson Audio's current top of the range models still look a little strange to me, I have to say that looking at these Wamm speakers, they sure have come a long way since then.

No sour grapes with this statement... but these speakers look like they were put together by some DIY person in their home workshop. The oval bass drivers look like they were pulled from a car and stuck into some box with a kitchen cabinet handle attached to the back, after which he pinched some mini compo speakers and attached 2 to each speaker.

hifikrazy,

>>>>No sour grapes with this statement... but these speakers look like they were put together by some DIY person in their home workshop

You do not know how close you are to the truth in making that statement....in fact they were the 1st commercial speakers that Dave Wilson built

It started life when Dave put together a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10s and added an ESR electrostatic tweeter and a Braun mini-monitor.
Then i think he added those 18 inch subs later

I see, that explains it. "...aesthetically challenged amalgam..."

I thought Wilson Audio was around for longer than that. Anyway, good to see that they have moved on in leaps and bounds since then. I still aspire to one day have myself a pair of Wilsons, but even their cheapest model is out of my reach.
