The basic white/red plug interconnect that came in the box with the Marantz SA7001KI I'm using to a Marantz PM7200 amp. Speakers are Bose 301s on generic stands, using stock Bose speaker wire (extra cost, doesn't come with speakers). Am quite satisfied. Very Happy

Mine is Van Den Hul The First. The old one.

It was the first interconnect that deliberately change the sound of my system.

Hmm used mogami 2549 before
according to my opinion
it is musical but seems blur detail and moderate sound stage compare to my current QED Qunex 4S has much clear detail and much wider sound stage
but its performance is very value for the price which only about 1/5 of my current interconnect

I think the to range for Mogami is 2803. In fact, read a lot of comments on Mogami and most of them are pretty good... good value for money. I'm currently looking a IC to replace my existing Cable Talk Monitor 2. Any suggestion ? Should I try mogami ?

Hmm i see some feedback by google-ing the mogami 2803
some say batter than QED silver spiral
My opinion,
the previous mogami 2549 i used i found that it is neutral which almost any system it can perform good (i think valve amp with energetic I/C will perform batter) and sounds musical with warm mids and no harshness
but the bad impression 2549 for me is a bit layback and many detail listenable but seems shy hidden inside sepaker not comming out (ah sorry for my childish explanation)
If 2803 with same sound signature with overall improvement
i think 2803 will be a very good cable Very Happy

Hi azri,

Are you saying that optical is far better than coax? Well, at least in your system? Mind to share what is the price difference between both of them? And make of the optical of coz.

hi sifus....

i hv tried couple of ways to enhance my low bass

currently i'm using below stuffs

amp: Audio Analog Verdi
cdp: Marantz CD-7300 modded power cable
speakers: Sonus Faber Concertino Domus with original stands
interconnects: XLO Ultra 1meter
spkr cables: XLO Ultra 3 meter pair
power cable for amp: Cardas Quadlink (i think)

at the moment...the lower bass extension is kinda short compared to my audition at the hifi shop...same setup
i know acoustics play an important part but at the moment for me acoustics is kinda limited due to the fact that my set has been migrated to the hall

so, in ur opinion, if i change d spkr cable or interconnects a wise choice?

I might not know how to describe the sound.. Razz
1st of all, the Cardas is the basic model.
I found that the vocal and bass are good but these cables are not 'silent' enough.
It is like there are some noise if we compare to more expensive cables.

Bro hushymushy,

I would not suggest you to buy/change cables in a haste.
Furniture might play a role in the short bass extension that you described.
Bookshelf, Racks, Couch, for example, will contribute to the short bass extension.
Try to stand at different spots between your gears and the seat.
You may observe some different bass extensions.
Well, I am no expert but this method is FOC and no harm trying..

Cheers.

Very Happy Bro hushy, I agree with car o scope, Changing to other interconnect/Speaker cable wont have a collossal impact for a bigger and well defined bass. Its the room effect thats dictating your bass. Your Sonus would do better in a smaller room or the "right" distance from walls. Try listening while an assistant movesthe Sonus around. The best location and toe-in may not be enuff. I strongly suggest a good stand (maybe you already have) or move to another room....try borrowing some Kimber PBJ/8TC or Hero cables from friends and have a listen before committing spending in an expensive passion. If you are married ..throw your wife out! haha Very Happy . Just joking
Just my two sen!

I'm testing Kimber Timbre interconnect as of now. 1st impression is what a transparent cable and by saying that the difference is pretty obvious compare to QED Silver Spiral I'm currently using. Everything sounded so clear. For example while you put more attention listening to piano, the background string sounded as if you are paying attention to it too. Clean and clear

The drawback is bass is pretty lacking but maybe I'm used to excellent bass from Silver Spiral. Gonna give it a few more days before deciding to fork out RM560 for this ic.

here's some useless facts for you. the kimber pbj stands for peanutbutter and jelly. a favourite american snack. kaya toast to us malaysians. the silver streak has 3 conductor strands. the silver streak refers to the silver strand among the other 2 copper strands.

I had two sets of listeners over the past few days to listen to my system. For one batch, I used MIT interconnects and Furutech power cords, totalling about Rm6-7k in all. For the other batch, I used Gotham Cables and cheap power cords, about 25% the cost of the other batch. I didn't tell them what I was using until later.

You know what, both batches of listeners appeared to tremendously enjoy what they heard from my system. the cables, connects and cords didn't seem to matter!

Agreed. It is not necessary expensive cables = better sound. It is more challenging and exciting to use less expensive cables in order to get high end sound, and it is not impossible to achieve.

Bassraptor, if you tell those listeners what cables you use before the auditions, I'm sure they will all give better comment to the system which uses more expensive cables, that's nature of many audiophiles....

A quite famous local hifi blogger auditioned my system recently, before I told him the RCA and speakers cables used in my system, he very much enjoyed the sound. After knowing the few hundred rinngit only cables being used, he started to "advise" me to use rm3k or more same brand cables for "better resolution".....I just pretended he was correct. However, he never knew that I had auditioned those cables he mentioned and only the cables I'm using now are best matched with my system with good resolution.

some folks believe the more you spend on wires, the better. if that keeps them happy, well and good for them, it's their money. Me, I'm having fun mixing and matching cheap wires to see how close I can get to the performance of the more costly reference wires I own (which nothing compared with what some audiophiles own).

been trying out the Black Widow Jazz power cord from Acoustique Systems ... nice bit of work, for a few hundred RM only ...

Some of my power cord findings (with American-type plug) ... standard 12AWG China-made pc can be surprisingly effective! There, I said it ... a bunch of McIntosh owners once flamed me for daring to suggest this ...

Do I prefer the cheap Gotham or Rm6-7k? I hear the differences and think the MITs and Furutechs enhance the system in specific areas. But the Gothams are as musical for less money - see above for why I use them.

Now, whether I will hear the differences blindfolded, I can't say now but hope to try this sometime ...

has anyone used single crystal PCOCC (such as AC Zens reference) for the RCA ? is it really making the electrons flow smoothly and thus clear sound (or smooth sounds)?

Re: What interconnect you are using ?

is it current first or voltage first ah. no voltage how to current flow. No current how to create voltage. some like the current flow in smooth wire, some like the current flow in Carbon wire.

I am only familiar with laminar flow and turbulent flow. Now frequently deal with open channel flow.

For me different cables give different sound. Not better but just different. For example my VDH sounded good with my SS setup but once I hook it up to tube stuff...yuck.

Kimber cable interconnect that I tried sounded good with both setup. Now very curious to try their speaker cables. Koyak la poket

I suggest you all to try Monster Cable Interconnect interlink 300, 400..link between CD player and amp. Improve bass and balance.

Well I guess when you have areas in your audio that you're not happy with, like too much hash, thin sound, bloated bass etc..., interconnects with different characteristics can help with the overall tuning to bring you a step or two closer to your goal. Interconects can be regarded as tone controls for audiophiles I suppose. As for affordably prices interconnects, super expensive interconnects to DIY electrical cord, telephone wire interconnects, CAT5 network cable interconnects, It also boils down to matching and a whole lotta other factors as well. Mostly, what sounds best to your own ears.

Azri, the PBJ has 3 strands of copper. The Silver streak has 2 strands of copper and a "streak" third strand of silver. Kipish?

bimmerman: that's blasphemy to some! .... wires are not supposed to act as tone controls, they say! instead, they should not make their presence felt.

ps: so how are you enjoying purer power at home these days?

kancan: did the monster cable route 20 years ago. moved on also ... as most have. may as well use unfancied gotham cables. cheaper.
