Minor surface ones are possible. Deep scratches, forget it!
I saw some 'kit' being sold for this purpose but never bought or tried any. A very mild polish is required. If you search the Net there are tonnes of info about it..

Make a burn copy at 1x speed seep this copy for playback as well as a backup copy. Then experiment with your 'scratch removal' exercise...............which i think is quite futile. Just my opinion.

There may be 2 kinds of "scratches". One is scratches which are like hairline grooves and another are "scuffs". It varies how much scratches can be effectively removed or reduced. Scuffs may pose easier to removing by careful polishing. I've done away some scuffed ones with reasonable success. Nevertheless I'll contend with some used cd's that may have light scratches and as long as they're playable without error, I'll keep them. If incur read error, then its time to look for a replacement copy.

I just use Johnson Metallic Kitwax (non abrasive type), just a wee bit to minimize the best (may even remove altogether). Its used for my car actually so might as well lah. It does take some careful skill.
Good luck.

I used soft liquid wax and it works. The liquid wax helps remove some of those ugly marks, then wash it in dishwashing liquid (use just your fingers) and air dry it if possible. DON"T use solvents like thinner or turpentine.

Think CMBoy is right. It's more logical to replace the damage CD and involves less 'heartache', especially if the damages are done by another party! Hence, some audiophiles are very reluctant to loan out their collections, much more put their collections on display, usually in locked glassed cupboards away from preying eyes!!!!!

Talking about loan. I'm most reluctant to loan any to anyone anymore. If its any consolation, I may offer a CDR copy for evaluation instead. They're all too precious and many are irreplaceable. Moreover will not show anyone my precious collection. I lost so many LP's in the past, all never came back. Lesson learnt very well. Just me.

Hi Sam, yes, any damage or loss to precious cd can be a heartbreaker. I've learnt to be extra careful best I can with my precious cd's. Which is why I sometimes do buy spare copies of precious albums for keeps.
BTW, I will educate my kids that these albums may be quite collectible someday and command a high price in future, eventhough the music may not be entirely to their liking. But then again, who knows the future, there's so many young people taking up vinyl LP with old records, eventhough they're so exposed to digital gadgetry on the cheap.
