Re: Preamp Selection - Need Help

Dear Sifus,

Remember me? the guy with DIY scanspeak bookshelf 2 way speakers?

Really appreciated your comments & advices on the thread>> http://www.hifi4sale.net/equipment-discussions-f6/amp-selection-help-required-t7785.htm

And now need your advice & suggestion again, I just bought an Adcom GFA555mkII power amp, now am looking for a pre amp to match with it. The power amp input impedance is 100,000 ohm, does this 100k ohm important when choosing/matching a pre-amp?

Need your recommendation please, remember I like dynamite and play loud music, my budget for the preamp is around RM2k, looking for used unit. Is it worth trying Audiolab 8000A to be used as pre-amp? Also quite interested with Audio Research pre-amp.

Currently am using marantz cd63 ki input directly to the power amp for listening. Will this be harmful to the cdp or power amp?

Awaiting for your inputs please. Thanks.

Audio Research SP or LS (no phono) series? It may offer the adrenelin and muscle. But go test them b4 deciding.
AR's may cost more than your budget, so it seems. Almost never see them sub 2k price.

Modern preamps, even tube ones, shld be able to handle this load.

it won't harm the cdp or power amp. but the sound quality wld not be the best. adding a preamp wld improve the sound.

There is another option.
Use a buffer (tube) between the Marantz and the power amp.

I use passive preamp and tube buffer between Rotel poweramp and NAD cdp. Sounded like crap haha. I meant not the kind of sound that I prefer coz a few of my friends like it Smile

clean dark mellow smooth but feels like 1km from the band. manyak jauh oh. in other words, caved in, reserved, no presence.

where to find bro. titanium fascia some more. for the price of ayam percik...

bro, the yammie pre out no good compared to the passive pre?

this setup you got there might actually suit rock/acoustic rock...

tried unplugged versions of Alanis Morrisette, All American Rejects etc? should be nice

wild guess again...
