How many CDs/ LPs do you have?
Just out of curiosity, how many CDs (original) or LPs do you have in your collection? And what kind of genre(s) do you most listen to? If you are very passionate about music, to what extent would you go to hunt for the albums?
I do think that it is hard to get CDs that I like in KL. Even if they are available, they usually don't come cheap. That is why wherever I travel, I somehow would allocate time to hunt for CDs and most of the times, I found good bargains for good titles overseas. Perhaps to benefit other readers out there, you would like to recommend places where they have good albums at reasonable price.
Well let's get the ball rolling...

Cheh..thats not the way to stack cd's. A nice cabinet rack always does justice for large collection. Unfortunately cabinet rack have to be custom built, no ready made for 1000 cd's. If stacked like that, its problematic to sift through for one particular album when needed.

You can't even differentiate foul words from not, so the term moron aptly applies to you. Haha!

Hey guys, just move on lah! Looking at the kind of collection both of you have, you must be music lovers. That should be the way instead of just an audiophile who only listens to what suits the hifi and not the music. Can I visit you guys to explore your musical journey?

Re: How many CDs/ LPs do you have?
igmcheah,
I can be reached at 0123723825 and I live in Taman Shamelin Perkasa. I'm currently in Indonesia and my travel schedule has been quite hectic these past months since I joined a new company. But I'm sure we can find some time, prrobably this Sunday at Amcorp Mall if I can make it.
jazzfunksoulmusic,
Looking at the link you provided, I must say that is the single I'm dying to have. I don't have many singles in my collection, mainly albums. I only have the 3 Portishead's studio albums. If you have that single in mp3, could you please make a copy for me?

I don't use YM or MSN. If you don't mind and the file is less than 10Mb, could you please send it to [url=mailto://wingkeat.woo@gmail.com]wingkeat.woo@gmail.com? Anyway, I'm looking for Rio en Medio's second album. I bought her debut album and I can't stop raving about listening to it.
Highly recommended!

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for the mp3. It's trippy. I'm a bit dissapointed not to hear Beth Gibbon's voice in the song.

Glad to see someone having choice selections of Deep Purple.
I feel, Machine Head ranks as most awesome album. Have the SACD version of this album..the sonic quality from the SACD is a revelation.

Thanks for the offer Bro. I'll get along to purchasing the albums anyway. Your beautiful sleeves of the Division Bell just inspired me to purchase a copy
My Pink Floyd collection is rather limited. I only have Dark Side of the Moon SACD, The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Animals.

Re: How many CDs/ LPs do you have?
The Dark Side of the Moon SACD sounds amazing. I have quite a collection of Pink Floyd cds. I have all the albums except Ummagumma and A Momentary Lapse of Reason. On top of that I have Shine On box set (9 CD). I've just started collecting their albums on vinyls, managed to acquire Dark Side of The Moon so far. Anyone wants to let go any Pink Floyd records? Hehe

Re: How many CDs/ LPs do you have?
I started buying SACDs about 6 months ago as the sound quanlity is simply more superior than the normal red book CDs.
I went to Rock Corner ini Garden yeaterday and the sales staff told me that customers were non longer allowed to try out SACDs. I really think this is pure stupidity. How could they expect us to fork out between RM 100- RM 120 to buy something unheard of?
I wonder if anyone could recommend an outlet where one could try out the SACDs before committing. This is so sad as compared to Singapore. I went to "That CD Shop" in Singapore along Orchard Road. Not only I could try out all the SACDs I liked, the sales lady was so knowledgable and she was so pretty which was a big bonus.

Every time I go to this shop, they would bring me a big stack for preview. Now, if only I had all the time in the world!

Re: How many CDs/ LPs do you have?
Bought a few from forumer seller here, another lot from Hong Kong arrived this morning. Made my day!. Enough expenditure for the month. The lot from HK is so much cheaper than the asking price here by a margin little more than 30%. One of them is a Hugo remaster LPCD 1630 type (not CDR).
All in all, I could have a Japanese buffet with the savings. Sometimes I feel like a blardi fool buying from local shops. Can really get irked at local prices unless I've no choice where it can't be found on the internet. Sometimes the "new" CD's look like raped virgins, MOREOVER that stupid local hologram spoiling the cover insert. I'll NEVER buy a CD with that damn hologram. Buy from online its nearly for certain the item is still virgin.
Can see the brimstone brewing in wifey's eyes.. bah!

Thats why I show my disgust in NOT buying any of those that have that hologram. Will buy online instead, better price on top of it, Be alert of their sales promo as to price. Thats what I did, with extreme patience. (and luck).
I bought some Polydor re-issues (mini LP replica) of some long past artists, (maybe not laku anymore now) at US$6.29 each. The same HERE sells for Rm32 (maybe 10% discount). Buy a minimum amount and shipping is FOC right to your doorstep! I don't have to waste petrol and parking fees at some shopping complex unless I'm there for multiple purposes. I have to buy this because I can't afford the actual LP's. The re-issues may not compare 100% against the actual LP but its close enough and well mastered for all intent and purpose. Bang for the buck and pragmatic approach to wanting music that you luv to enjoy?
Show your disgust, don't buy local if you hate the hologram sticker.

Would you be kind enough to share the contact detail of the seller. I really hate to go back to Rock Corner Garden. RCG used to have some very helpful staff but now it is manned by a middlel aged Chinese chap (with spectacles) whom I think is a rude bastard and an autie who is totally lack of social skill .
I really miss the pretty lady in "That CD Shop" who made my CD purchase a wonderful experience.

Well.. I buy 80-90% of my CDs via mail order anyway but it's not good if what's left of our local music retail goes under hence I will once in a while get a CD from a local store though there's really nothing to get nowadays. This hobby is really dying..

Not to worry about local cd shops. The local audiophile community is small and most other customers are not fussy about issues that may seem trivial. In this case, my own interest and preference come first.

BTW.. which web mail order facilities do you use? I'm using Amazon UK (cheaper shipping than US) and CDWOW (free shipping) but contemporary jazz from the likes of ECM label are very expensive. Any good/decent alternatives?

You know lah, workers here ain't doing work with luv and care. Even my plate of Nasi Kandar for a high price looks like a plate of mess.
Anyway, think that hologram is here to stay as its government revenue for every hologram. Its not free you know.

The hologram was created so that some high and mighty guys sitting on the top can make some quick and big $$$$$$ just like the liquor, beer, medication, etc.

Re: How many CDs/ LPs do you have?
Speaking about local cd shops, what irks me most is the quality of CD player and headphones for testing. Gosh!.. many look on the verge of collapse, intermittent operation, sometimes I've got to ask for help why the music is one sided on h/p. Hate it!.
Thats why I have a standby CD discman in my bag to tryout, if permitted. At least I'm familiar with my player acoustics and can judge whether the cd is worth buying or not. Imagine me carrying a Linn Sondek around...hahahaha!

If there is a need to get a CD locally, Rock Corner at Bangsar Village is my choice. Very Very helpfull owner.
If in the mood for used Cd's, Amcorp mall fleamarket level 2 or 3 and there are two to three sellers.
cheers

Re: How many CDs/ LPs do you have?
Actually the good days of getting best cd's are over in town and newbies have to search high n low countrywide. Even the choice at KLAV are disappointing in recent years, but great deals can still be found, so I'd never miss the opportunity as long as I'm able.
Still have a few dozen more albums in my want list, mostly obscure ones and not many that are preferred by audiophiles.
Yes, I grabbed those recent for sale Lily Chen cd's from here. (frequently seen them at shops but never really wanted to buy till I saw 3 used albums on sale at a very affordable price, couldn't resist)
