Indie music
Hi All,
Do any of you like indie music? Care to recommend any good artists/ albums? Or just talk about the ways to obtain this kind of less popular genre of music? Any feedback are much appreciated.
To get the ball rolling, I'm currently listening to O+S' self titled debut album, a collaboration between Orenda Fink (Azure Ray, Art in Manila) and Scalpelist, aka Cedric Lemoyne (Remy Zero). Their music draws inspiration from David Lynch and old 4AD records, filled with melodious reverie.

Ahh I can always learn a thing or two from you. Funnily I saw few Dead Can Dance CDs when I was in Houston and about to call you to ask for your recommendation only to realize it was around 5am in M'sia.
Another friend of mine who shares a great deal of passion in indie music once suggested that I should follow the record label to define my music preference. I kind of agree with him. My favorite indie labels: 4AD (classic), Saddle Creek, Sub Pop, Arts & Crafts, Pehr, Rough Trade, Labrador, XL, Beggars Banquet, Domino, Matador, Modular, Merge and Temporary Residence.
Some blasts from the past, artist from 4AD that I've adored over the years:
Cocteau Twins, Tanya Donelly, Lisa Germano, Gus Gus, Kristin Hersh, Lush, Mojave 3, Pixies, Red House Painters, Theivery Corporation and Ultra Vivid Scene.
By the way, I'm desperately looking for any Bauhaus and This Mortail Coil CDs. You have any, Mr. Cheah?

Re: Indie music
I don't have This Mortal Coil but might have a few Bauhaus lying somewhere around. Let me look it up and will let you know. Thievery Corporation is very chill out/dance/electronic, whereas Red House Painters is very melodic/pop. The Sub Pop label can be very alternative and Beggars Banquet can be very gothic and extreme at times. You surely amazes me with your repertoire swings!

Re: Indie music
You certainly know stuffs. Yeah Red House Painters earlier stuff was laden with pop hooks but I don't quite get Mark Kozalek's new band Sun Kil Moon. I bought April after reading rave reviews about it only to find out his compositions are more complex and less melodic now. My favorite artists signed under Beggars Banquest: Love and Rockets and The National. Although both are totally from different epoch, I can find the connections in their music. Of course the latter is much influenced by the former.
Well please please please, if you have some Bauhaus to sell, please let me know.

Re: Indie music
Currently listening to Emily Jane White.
She sounds like a dead ringer to Chan Marshall aka Cat Power, but I still love her. Managed to see her perform in Louisiana a couple of months ago. It was an acoustic set, her bare voice stripped naked. A truly phenomenal and intimate experience.
Talking about that, has anyone bought a ticket to watch Cat Power perform in S'pore in January 2010? I've got mine and looking forward to that.

The Occasional Keepers - The Beauty of the Empty Vessel
Profoundly surreal. Fans of Trembling Blue Stars, the Field Mice and Northern Picture Library will dig this album.
