Ayon CD players feedback
Guys, I don't know if this has come up before but any of you have experiences with Ayon products, specifically, the CD players? Share please ...

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Hmmm.. If not mistaken, it is the top loading CD player which a Penang hifi shop used to demo when I was there last time.
They paired it with a second hand Jadis integrated and Sonus faber Toy Tower.
They are beautifully made with black fascia and red display.
To be fair, I dont know how well it goes up against other brands as I could not get the chance to compare it side by side against other CDP though.
But I do feel that the sound has wide sound stage and depth but not extraordinary.
Maybe it is because of the matching.
Or maybe I did not listen long enough. Just my 2sen.
OOT sikit.. I went there with my friend who has no interest and no idea about hifi.
The sales person served us and introduced the Jadis amp.
He demoed fourplay songs and I asked my friend to sit at the sweetspot to enjoy the music while I went to admire the Gryphon Diablo.
The sales person meanwhile stood there silently with his eyes setting steadily on a hifi magazine in his hand.
After two tracks, I went back to the sofa and asked my friend "how is it?"
She answered "How come the sound not balance one? The right speaker got no sound one. Something wrong with the setting?"
Well, embarrassingly, I myself also did not realise that in the first place. hahahaha...
Then, the salesperson overheard us and quickly went over to the Jadis to do the adjustment. Indeed, the setting was wrong.
Gosh.. I thought some failures with one of the components.
Thank god it wasn't. After the adjustment, everything went well.
However, in the end, I did not buy anything there but great to have a brief experience on the Ayon+Jadis+Sf system.

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Come to think of it, this Ayon CD player would not look out of place as a replacement for a broken Mark Levinson CD transport in a rack housing other ML grear. Hmmm... Just got an idea.
Now the question is, how does it sound???

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Ayon has four CD players in its range, - CD-5, CD-2, CD-1s and CD-07 ... the two-box CD-3 has been discontinued. The 5 and 2 have balanced outputs. All use tubes. List prices range from around 8k for entry level to 34k for flagship 5.
Parts are sources from various places, case is made in China, the whole thing is assembled in Austria, where it was conceived and designed.
Yeah, they look cool ... hope to lay my hands on one of them for a review ...

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Hi there,
I'm a proud owner of Ayon CD-2 for few months. I bought it from Penang (nearby to where I stay..usually most hifi things are in KL). I trade in my Denon CD player.
As for the spec, you can look into (www.ayonaudio.com).
First of all, all the things that I looked for in a CD player is in Ayon CD-2 (2 pairs of tubes, top loading. balanced, below RM15K).
I'm not a certified reviewer so I'm not going to say anything mambo jambo..all I can say since the arrival of Ayon, most of my time I spend listening and enjoying my musics. I like to listen to music before, even on the Denon but sometimes with the Denon I felt a bit tired & bored..so I went to watch Astro. But now I have cancelled my Astro subscription just to listen to musics on Ayon. The flow of the music somehow make me want to listen more and more..some sort of addiction. So I hope you can 'feel' my enjoyment with Ayon CD-2. Maybe it sounds like I'm promoting this CD player but I'm sincere of my 'true feeling'.
I don't owe many audiophiles recordings..in fact many of them were locally pressed..still with Ayon CD-2 they sounds good..but if you play Jennifer Warren The Hunter, then that's the real test. You can feel as if Jennifer herself is singing in front of me.
I agreed with the comment above regarding the demo. It didn't impress me much that particular day but I still bought it because I was pretty sure it will be a blast in my system. That's the key actually..your system..whether it's going to fit in and whethet this is the type of player you're looking for. For me, I have found what I'm looking for.
One thing you need to know about this player's weakness. Of couse there are..nothing is perfect. Somehow this CD player cannot play certain CDs..or you need to reboot the CD player for it to read the CD. Only a few but it can get on your nerve sometimes. And it is hot..so needs a lot of space for ventilation..and of course you cannot put anything on it as it is top loading. And it cannot play SACD (for the price some will expect they can play this format).
Well, like your children..they are not perfect but you still love them..same goes to Ayon CD-2.
I hope this will help those who seek the info on THE player.

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
its frustrating when you buy a cdp & it does not read some of your pb collections. its more frustrating when your expectations is high hence the 5 figures price & yet it disappoint you by not doing its job accordingly. things like this makes it really hard for me to shift to another cdp brand unless its proven to be working as expected. if im you mr jimel, i'll be sending bacn that cdp.. cheers

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Hi there Azri,
Thanks for the advice. Well, for me life is full of joy..I can't expect to grumble each time things are not 'in line' with me..I took that as 'natural defect' that comes with life..like my wife, for example..she's not perfect..but don't expect me to send her back to her parents just yet as she has her own good qualities..and I like her the way she is..those 'defects' define her..so does Ayon CD-2..and I just simply love Ayon to send CD-2 back to the master..I'll live with the so called 'defects' as Ayon makes my life complete in other ways..we complement each other..
Azri. you have your ways..I have mind. Thanks anyway.

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
even a nice, decent dvd player dont have that kind of problem. just stuff in any cd, mp3, dvd, whatever format it can read & just within a few second its doing what it suppose to do in the 1st place which is READ.. no problem.. im not against ayon, but i dont understand such expensive cdp can have defects! its like buying proton, you're paying to blend with the defects it comes with for free & for the rest of your life..!!

Hi there again,
I guess you're someone who doesn't give up easily. I handed down to you for your arguement. I leave it to the readers to judge it. It is an open market. I just tell the truth about something so that other will know and decide for themselves. Maybe my unit is faulty..maybe others will perform perfectly..maybe that..maybe this..maybe I'm just the guy who see the bright side of every single thing..'tepuk dada, tanya selera'.

The Ayon Audio CDP has been receiving excellent reviews from hi-fi press including Dagogo and 6moons. Incidently the hi-fi shop in Penang selling the Ayon is in Midlands Pulau Tikus right?

Why not take your Saturn to wherever they're demo-in the Ayon there and do an A/B. The units just came in this week.

i described a bit of the sound of the ayon 07 above but i think it's a departure from the company''s traditional "warm" and "mellow" sound. can't say much about the other brands. i almost bought an Ayre once but passed it up when i heard the Bluenote.

Can shed some light on the mentioned operational quirks?

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
It's a DVD driver functioning as a CD drive, so maybe that's when. Takes more time to load than a CD player. Open the drawer, slip in disc, close drawer and it begins playing immediately, unlike CD players. Takes a bit more time to respond to some commands than CD players .... doesn't help that it uses what looks like a Sony remote ... need to read the manual carefully to find the right buttons ... it will play some DVD-Audio discs!
And yet, I have yet to find a worthwhile upgrade.

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Much more slower compared to a cdp like errr.. say a Rega Apollo?
Is it because of the mechanism is that slow or the player itself has some sort of data correction while reading the CD?
I have an old Denon and it can load quite fast. And reliable too.
But of course the sound quality cannot match the Stibbert lah.. hahahaha..

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
I think around the time of the Apollo. Maybe error correction, maybe that's how the operating software is designed. The Ayon CD player reads the CD is a flash, too ...
Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Like that still ok mar...
Not that long lar.. Boleh tahan lar..
The important thing is that it is reliable, durable and will not hang.

car: yeah, the stibbert seems quite durable. plus, adrian says any issues with the drive in long term, easy to replace since it's dvd.
i'm liking the ayon more and more!!!

I just love that CD lid lifter lever ala record player. This thing looks like it came out of the design studios of Porsche design. It's german afterall.
Here's one for sale at Audiogon. The shop is at Adelphi. US$5950 Negotiable. I was there last weekend.

Trouble is, Landy, I hate fish ...
The Ayon is retailing new here around Rm8k ... from the number players I've heard in recent couple of years, nothing touches this one on value!

car: yeah, the stibbert seems quite durable. plus, adrian says any issues with the drive in long term, easy to replace since it's dvd.
i'm liking the ayon more and more!!!
Thanks for the offer Sir. That will definitely come in handy. Tony quoted me ~10K but I've yet to start the bargaining process. I'm waiting for his CD07 to run in before commencing home trial.
After > 6 months of listening I find the Saturn while a smacking CD player for its price still occasionally exhibits the hard edge digital artefact. BTW, is Adrian still selling the Stibbert? I might get Andre to arrange for a demo.

Not that long lar.. Boleh tahan lar..
The important thing is that it is reliable, durable and will not hang.
Hang ok wat? My Saturn will throw this hissy fit once in a while and quick on/off action on the power button resolves the fit. No need to placade like gf/wife/kid

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
Even Rega Saturn also having this gremlin??
Hahahahahaha... yup.. just push the button will do and the "hang" problem will be solved at least for that moment.
Problem is.. I get used to the durability of a Denon CDP and never get the "hang" problem in 10years.

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
I see...
Well, I guess it is in the DNA then.
I thought only Apollo is like that. hahahaha..
Hmm... Now that some of you keep mentioning the Ayon, I am also quite curious about it.
I must go for another round of "ear washing" session when I go north next time.
The first time was not good enough.

llsaw: actually, adrian was never distributor for the stibbert, he was just helping someone sell the units, i think only two sold. one i got!
check your pm for the contact.
car: as software gets more sophisticated, those hangs and "reboots" are inevitable. somehow, japanese are better at organising their electronics, this it seems.
sometimes, with these newer players, when you inadvertently execute multiple commands, they queue up and sometimes take a while to get through. A simple matter of powering off and on gets things going again. Nobody loses anything.
a survey some time ago showed that the electronics in japanese cars were more stable and less prone to failure than even german cars like bmw or merc! it didn't make the jap cars better, just more reliable.
But got for an ayon session again ... make sure player has been run in ...

Re: Ayon CD players feedback
It is just that I did not get used to these "hang" issues and have to reboot CDP halfway through listening sessions for so many years.
I have to admit that I was quite shocked when the 1st time happened.
This was the situation after I changed from the Denon to the Rega.
But still, I hardly reboot the Apollo. When it "hangs", I will press the STOP button.
Hoping that it will stop on its own.
I will wait for err.. say 1-2 mins and it will automatically stop and back to normal again.
It works for me every time (so far so good lar.. ).
How I wish the Apollo will not get those "hangs" like Japanese CDP..
