Sutherland Ph3D MM/MC Phonostage with dedicated external power supply.

Pls read full description below to better understand the dedicated external battery power supply.

As good as new, Sutherland Ph3D MC/MM phono-stage. This is an excellent phono-stage  for its clean and transparent sound. Includes original box and manual.

It has internal dip switches for various MC loading and gain selections. See last pic to see these selections.

The Ph3D as standard uses 16 size D standard dry cell batteries for complete isolation from mains noise and interference.

But this Ph3D comes with a bespoke dedicated external power supply.  This brings the Ph3D to a whole new level!

This external power supply consist of two 12V lead-acid batteries of 1.2Ah each. It also comes with its own fully regulated charger to protect over current and over charging.

Pls note there is absolutely NO modification or alteration done to the Ph3D.

Basically, the external power supply connection cables are just clipped to the appropriate voltage points where the size D dry cell batteries would be. These can be easily removed.

This battery power supply comes with its own dedicated charging station.

The advantages of this lead acid battery power supply vs the size D batteries are:
1. Lead-acid batteries are much better at delivering instantaneous current on demand. Even better than from the mains. This is will ensure excellent transient response and dynamic swing. 

2. It has higher storage capacity than normal dry cell batteries. Basically it will run at full capacity over a much much longer period for optimum sound quality.

3. Normal batteries need replacing or if using rechargeable batteries, hassle of having to recharge 16 of them at the same time and costly. Basically cost over the long run.

4. Normal or rechargeable batteries if left inside over long period may leak. Or may corrode the battery contacts. We all have experienced this at one time or another.

5. Final point, normal dry cells have relatively higher internal resistance. What this means is that you will not get the full voltage as the internal resistance takes up some voltage across it, and reducing current delivery.  Imagine having 16 dry cell batteries in series. What will that internal resistance be? 16 times more not including the possibility of corroded contacts.
