Weight Down - CD / Bluray Payer
Ok, I have read some where that by putting some weights for eg, heavy books etc on top of a cd player will eventually make the player sounds better. Is the philosophy of weighing down the machine can mitigate the vibrations caused by the fast spinning of the cd inside so that the players itself is more stabilized?
If so, does this also applies to any Bluray players? I would like to put some weighs on my bluray player and hope that this can improves its video & audio. But, would also like to have your opinions first on this. Books look weird maybe something like heavy glass or tiles?

I utilize two sheets of "mouse pads" made out of rubber, just nice to place them on my CDP.
Also the CDP sits on 4 inch ( diameter ) rubber "O" ring washers.
cheers

Mikapoh: It's a non-investment experiment, so why don't you try and see, and then report your findings here. Will be interesting.

Sure I am going to try it and use the dictionary books first. Shall see if I could spot some differences soon.
How about anyone experiencing it before?

Try a bag full of sand, resting in the middle of where the disc spins.

Re: Weight Down - CD / Bluray Payer
I have damped the case of one of my cd players with bitumen adhesive internally and adding diving lead weights on the top.
I do hear significant difference with the sound being more focus, bass with better definition and much 'cleaner' overall.
Works well for me, i presume....

Re: Weight Down - CD / Bluray Payer
It's free so try it and let us know the results (as well as the brand of BR player you have). But you should also check that the player can take it. Meaning that some components get quite hot during operation and they might depend on conduction of heat off the top plate for cooling. So if you put a stack of books on top, you effectively interfere with that and it may cause your component to overheat. I am not sure if any BR player uses this feature. So check (by simply placing your hand on the top of the player after it has been played for a hour or two) first before you go ahead and do the experiment.

Rightly said, I've tried other large surface 'weights' and you'll know it starts to 'overheat' when the disc starts skipping erratically!

Re: Weight Down - CD / Bluray Payer
Thanks for verifying my experience.
lso, do check carefully about the consistency or the solidity of the structure of the player itself. For e.g. some player might have relatively thin metal sheets for the body. If we place something very heavy, it MIGHT cause the chassis to flex. The CD-tray itself is mounted onto the chassis and if the chassis flex in a bad manner, it might throw the CD-tray out of alignment, e.g. out of level (I assume everyone makes the effort to ensure your CD player is properly levelledl !). That MIGHT introduce some negative effects to the player.

You would do better by 'floating' the entire player by resting it on 3 or 4 spherical objects of same diameter.

Re: Weight Down - CD / Bluray Payer

Hmmm....food for thought
