I wouldn't know if there's parallels to LCD TV but I did ressurect one 3year old LG LCD PC widescreen monitor (no power or display) not too long ago by replacing some bad caps which have all bulged. The manufacturer wanted Rm200+ to replace the PSU board. Rm200+ was about 2/3 price of a new one.
Just my experience..not a definitive conclusion and other faults can make any LCD go faulty.
Yup, +1 to send back to manufacturer SC first.

cost saving is the main idea for not sending back to manufacturer.

If it is a higher end brand LCD, like Sony, Sharp, etc, even Samsung, they have their own proprietry circuits inside like MotionFlow and so forth. Sending to an outside repairman might not be worth the trouble as chances are many of the circuits are implemented as chips so they can't be repaired, just replaced. Of course you might be lucky and it's just a simple resistor or capacitor that blew. You have to take your chances. Unfortunately I do not know of any good TV repairman nowadays.
