Wilken/Exposure Transformer
Hi All,
Does anyone know how to connect input wires for this transfomer?
I know the blue, white, orange & purple are output wires. But I am not sure how to connect the input wires, please help.
Thanks.
I downloaded a picture show how it is connected to an amp:

Re: Wilken/Exposure Transformer
I'm guessing there's 2 sets of primary coils, each 110V, confirm with multimeter continuity reading. For 220V-240V, series them and see if you obtain suitable output voltage on the secondary. Guessing by logic, Red-Black is 1 winding, Yel-Black is the other. For 110VAC, its probably connected in parallel, for 240VAC its likely in series. When testing transformers, should use a variac transformer. Without the variac transformer for bench tests, you risk untold damage if connected to mains directly, moreover better know what you're doing.
I don't think there's Exposure schematics available anywhere, unless some obscure soul have them privately. Good luck.

Re: Wilken/Exposure Transformer
cmboy,
When checked with my flluke digital multimeter, it has continuity between black & yellow, red & brown. Meter reading is 3.1 ohm for each pair.
There is no reading/no continuity between black & red, brown & yellow.
How do I connect them in series? I have a step down transformer 230ac to 110ac, can i use it for testing this transformer?
Below are closer view of the pictures showing wires connection at the switch, any clues there?
Thanks for your advice.

Re: Wilken/Exposure Transformer
Hi Allen,
Looking a the pictures of the amp, it seems that you got urself a half complete Exposure amp.. how do you manage to get it? Dont remember Exposure ever sell DIY kits..
Anyway, your picture of the exposure is the older version 2010s. I have another picture for you. basically it is the newer version 2010s2. The blue and white wires are terminated with coupler.
Your pictures are showing something quite different. The standard exposure 2010s doesnt have fuse holder at the main PCB board like yours. Quite dangerous to attach the transformer, if by referring to picture, because yours may have a different schematic..

Re: Wilken/Exposure Transformer
Hi Allen, I think its best to suggest you meet up with an experienced electronic technician with advanced knowledge, tools and equipment to sort out your transformer to the best of his ability. Little knowledge of electrical circuitry or electronics skill can end up with untold disaster. Suggestions or comments over the forum only provide logical or educated clues and guesses that'll not likely result with ultimate solution. Those pictures are not up close shots nor any of the circuit trace of the pcb or motherboard to provide sufficient tracing of how its actually wired.

Re: Wilken/Exposure Transformer
OK, got it !!
cmboy, you are right, this is dual primary (115v coils x 2) transformer. Black & red for 240vac input, tap orange & yellow wires for series connection. It is quite obvious as shown in the picture, just that I wasn't sure.
so I have 2 vac outputs of 31.5v at blue/white wires, and 8.88 vac for orange/purple wires.
Thanks a lots guys for your inputs !!

Re: Wilken/Exposure Transformer
Discovered voltage from this transformer is too high and I need 2 centre-tapped transfomer for my setup, so just bought 2 pcs of center-tapped transformer 28v-0v-28v.
Will let go this Wilken transformer if someone interested.
Thanks.
