Convert LP into MP3

Post by greeny on Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:47 pm

Anyone did this before?
I'm helping a friend to convert some of the LP into MP3 so, he can bring it with him when he travel oversea... all these are LP inherited from his dad, so, i wanted so much to help him on this..

currently i'm using audacity to do this.... tape output / earphone output to laptop mic input...
i can record the music just ok. but the noise level is high...... anyone know how to minimize the noise? when i'm playing with the speaker, it's all good... noise was there but not obvious... if into latop.. it's like 30% noise and 70% music.. this is killing me... anyone ? pls help Smile

Greeny,

I am not converting LPs but cassettes to MP3. I bought this http://nadelectronics.com/products/hifi-accessories/PP-3i-Digital-Phono-Preamplifier

The noise from tapes may not be as loud as LP but I found that software provided VinylStudio helps to reduce the noise.

The MIC IN may not be suitable for this as it may be due it's 'high' gain characteristics hence the additional 'noise'.
An AUX IN would be more suitable.
I used an old version of MAGIX too with good results!
