Passive sub woofer, how to connect
Hi,
Can anyone help me out with this set up.
Have a 50 watt Rms stereo amplifier and wanted to get connected with my old passive subwoofer, spring loaded speaker terminal that got red +and black- for the connection. Besides having to utilise the main L and R speakers, the amp dont have the option for speaker Set A or B.
Can it be done, dont want to get the amp burnt up.
Hope you guys the expert can guide thru or can suggest another option.
thank you so much.

You need another amplifier for your passive subwoofer. A cheap Class D amp will do. Maybe something like the Behringer A500.

You can't use the external wiring because you said that you don't want to blow up your amp

Hi, you can always run another pair of wires from the amplifier terminalstoyour passive sub. Like, positive wire from your right channel positive to the red terminal of the sub and negative wire from your negative left channel of the amplifier to the black terminal of your sub. If you say, 50 watt RMS then it should have sufficient power to drive both the main and sub without causing any damage provided you push it too far.
I used to run 4 speakers and a passive sub using 40w stereo amp without any damage.
Re: Passive sub woofer, how to connect
I tested that wiring method, really works. And now i can say my sub woofer really can do the job. The bass is good enough to accompanied with the main L and R channel speakers.
Thank you very much.
