Spare LP albums

Post by Wan Azami Hamzah on Thu Sep 08, 2011 10:05 pm

I have my regular collection of LPs which I played often, some recently purchased. Moved house recently and opened up my other box of LPs containing which in the old house these collection of vinyls were acquired from audiophile buddies who had given up on vinyls years ago. All in all my collection is over two hundred albums. Amongst those I acquired are albums I already have and could be more when I get through the dusty box.

Amongst these are British and EU pressings-Pink Floyd, MJ Thriller, Lionel Ritchie, George Benson, Dire Straits, Grover Washington, Chuck Mangione and Steely Dan.

Will clean these in due course to check quality, but knowing my buddies from UK college days who played them on Aristons and Linn Sondeks, they should be in prestine condition.

Will put them up for sale soon.

Cheers.

BR,

Only one PF, The Wall album. Will probably do it all on highest bidder basis. All these are 80s collection so pressed from analogue masters.

I recently bought Dire Straits Private Investigation LP (to replace my old scratched one borrowed by a friend- no more lending since) which has been digitized or remastered as the label says. Yeah no tape hiss but sounds awful, hard and sterile, no ambience and soul, you are better of listening to the cheaper CD version instead.

I have the Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here but they are not for sale. Let me check the box to see if there are any spares.

Oh yes, I'm old school mate. I play the guitar and sing em too. Wish you were here the intro chords Em, G, Em G, EM A7, Em A7, G.........

The best rock band in the world ever right? If you know music you'll know Pink Floyd. The unique kind of music that inspired lots of other musicians and bands, some even borrowed their licks including YES and Supertramp.

Great to know that BR, cheers.

Oh, you can leave me on an island with the whole PF collection, I won't get bored.

Here's the sad thing, though ... I was playing Breathe in The Air (Em, A, Bm, etc) as a warm up for a practise session with my band earlier this week. My bass player asked me what song it was! I told him. He looked puzzled - said he'd never heard of PF. Sigh ... the boy's loss, he'll never know ...

My personal fave is Wish You Were Here - the very first whole PF album I heard. Then I discovered DSOTM. Then Animals. The Wall, despite its depressing operatic brilliance, was an anti-climax. After that, I dug out the older stuff and discovered the Live at Pompei video. Still haven't got enough of them!

I think the famous Roger Waters album is "Amused to Death".

There are some damn good rock bands from England, including of course Pink Floyd (contrary to you I like "The Wall" the most). But I also like Queen, Dire Straits, and of course the legendary Beatles.

Waters - I think Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking would be another...

Anyway, post-Wish You Were Here/Animals, they shed the psychedelic, spacey sound and became a rock band singing depressing songs about depressing things. When I first watched The Wall movie, I felt like slashing my wrists ... Shocked

Brit rock bands ruled in the golden age of rock - Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Who, Gentle Giant, Yes, Queen, etc ... and then, punk happened to them!

I'm also a huge Led Zep fan, btw ...

You sure those are the chords? The Wall is to me is Floyd at their matured and creative best. Hey You and Comfortably numb my fav tunes.

Fizi, Final cut did't cut it for me. Floyd was already breaking up and lost their focus. Yeah BR, have you checked out Gilmour's on an Island songs in his Royal Albert Hall concert in Bluray? Super stuff.

Actually, The Wall is Roger Waters at his depressing best - the others mostly did his bidding! Floyd at their spacey creative best peaked with Wish You Were Here ... just my personal opinion.

Em, A, Bm, G, F ... all the chords in Breathe ...

No, I haven't checked out that ... ain't it amazing how Gilmour he can play one note and you know it's him!

Well BR, Just like Beatles, we all love the fab 4. I happen to think McCartney was the Genius and still is, most people say John was. But we love them all.

Gilmour ranks as the best guitarist in the world for me, Steve Lukather is next. These guys play the notes like they are singing, from the heart. So melodic, so soulful it'll make your hair stand.

Bedtime for me now. Nitey all, sweet dreams.

The best PF album (to me) is Meddle. Just out of their psychedelic stage and before DSOTM.

The side long "Echoes" remains the most cohesive PF track.

Echoes, play that loud on vinyl, mesmerizing.
Great to know not all here at HF4S Not just tech savvy but real audiophiles who appreciate great music. Dunno why people wanna buy expensive TT, arm, cartridge and play Lady Gaga vinyl. Sorry.

BTW.. another rather lost album would be the soundtrack to the movie "More".

You can see from there and "Meddle" how they evolved after the Barrett influence to the DSOTM band that they are.

And IMHO, they declined after WYWH.

If one can get their hands on the P.U.L.S.E. Live album or DVD.... It's so totally worth it....

And while I'm on the topic of live albums, the recent release of Steve Winwood / Eric Clapton live at Madison Square 2010 is like totally awesome. It's a triple LP limited edition....
