Tannoy 800A active monitors (used) (SOLD)

Selling a pair of excellent active monitors from Tannoy. Highly regarded in professional audio production circles, the 800A’s use Tannoy’s Type 2046 Dual Concentric driver with the high frequency driver mounted in a waveguide in the center of the midbass driver. This makes for a perfectly-aligned point source with excellent dispersion and off-axis characteristics.

A built-in active crossover precedes two power amps per channel for (one for each LF/HF driver) make for explosive dynamics. Mated directly to, say, a good CD player / DAC or a computer and high-end audio interface, you won’t hear this kind of transparency and slam anywhere near this price range with traditional passive speakers and amplification.

They are fairly large blue boxes but come accross as quite attractive in its own way. Since they are a point source, they can be positioned on their side or upside-down (the Tannoy logo can be rotated to still look correct).
