The TX-DS939 is Onkyo's top-line home theatre controller and processor, a product engineered from the best materials and by best engineers, to produce the best home theatre sound possible. It features up-to-the-minute technology that caters for all surround sound processing systems, including Dolby Digital.

This unit houses the new processing technologies in a single chassis without the need for outboard processors. Two powerful, precise 24-Bit Motorola chips work in unison to provide effortless DSP performance and dramatically improved processing capacity.You will also discover that the TX-DS939 has 18 surround sound modes. The Dolby Digital facilities include Dolby Digital, Home THX Cinema, Action, Drama and Musical movie modes. Similarly, Dolby Pro-Logic facilities include Pro-Logic processing, Home Cinema THX, as well as Action, Drama and Musical modes.

Additionally, the Onkyo has a number of acoustic surround modes that are factory set. These are Concert Hall, Live, Arena, Stadium, Night Club, Open Air, Church and Discotheque, all electronic approximations of real venues and events. The THX facilities are full 5.1 technology, i.e. five channels (front stereo, rear surrounds and centre channel) and the '.1' denoting a subwoofer channel.

It also offers full electronic tailoring (re-equalization, de-correlation and timbre matching systems) that gives the system its distinctive performance characteristics. Onkyo has made the TX-DS939 much more than a mere surround sound processor. It's a system control center par excellence, capable of switching between six hi-fi sound sources and seven video sound sources. It features a neat and unusual remote control design, worthy for its in-built control functions, learning capability and ability to stand upright on a coffee table, and it's also very comfortable to hold and relatively easy to operate.
