“Not Your Typical Cantopop (But You Will Love It Anyway)” showcase by pop pop music


When it comes to Cantopop, Malaysian music lovers and Malaysian singers typically know Samuel Hui of the 70s and the “Four Heavenly Kings”, Beyond, Leslie Cheung, Alan Tam, Anita Mui, Sandy Lam of the 80s/90s and in modern times, Eason Chan. Seldom are there performers who venture adventurously beyond these popular artists, for the fear of alienation.


pop pop music, being in the forefront of modernized Chinese music live performances in Malaysia, have always wanted to cover songs by equally popular but less legendary Cantopop artists like Justin Lo (Chak Tin), Miriam Yeung (Yeung Chin Wah), Kay Tse (Cheh Ngon Kei) and Janice Vidal (Wai Lan). These second tier singers have plenty of great Cantopop hits that are seldom heard in live or Malaysian Chinese radio stations.


Talented and charismatic singer, Yeh Foong, from the disbanded TAT trio, is the best singer to carry these modern hits. Yeh Foong has the power and finesse, at the same time, delicate emotions and tenderness, that makes her good a cover version interpreter and an all-rounder stage performer.
