B&O is a crazy yuppie poser lifestyle brand now. U buy it if u just got too much money to burn and have nowhere else to spend it anymore.
But just IMO of course....

Skip the B&O. If you want great sound in a small package and pay less than B&O prices but at the same time with more panache than B&O, I suggest these:

Just add CD player, tuner or Ipod. etc. Cool huh!

Hi Bimmerman,
I like your recommendation with photos. If I'm not mistaken, amp is Mini Houston by Audio Space. But dont know what speaker it is. Where can I get this set up. And what is the budget like. Thanks

Oooooooh Mr Bigshow, you've got good taste. The speakers are Scandyna Minipods. Check out their website and then check out their speakers at Unicorn Audio at Amcorp Mall. I've also seen these speakers in ferrari red and various other colours at Harvey Norman and Apple centre Pavillion.

Not cheap though as these will set you back RM2700 per pair. But then again the people who made these speakers are said to be the same people who made the B&W Nautilus and the Nautilus can set you back almost half a million ringgit a pair and you'll also need 8 monoblocks to power them.

Suddenly RM2700 don't sound so expensive anymore does it? Yes, the amp is the Mini Galaxy.

Thank you.
Will drop by at Amcorp Mall someday to check it out. Hope it sounds as good as its looks and pricey tag.

Hi fizi,

I have an Onkyo CR-515 (CD receiver) paired with an Arcaydis AKS (any decent bookshelf would do) speakers in my rather small bedroom and I have to say that it sounds pretty damn good for the price. You can check out the review on What Hifi, in which it was awarded 5 stars which was what prompted me buy it in the first place. Just sharing...

I have a pair of these minipods in silver, mated to a Dared VP16 valve amp. How do they sound? In short, like crap! Then after around 50 hours of running in they have now transformed into something else and can actually rival my Sonus Faber in soundstaging and exceed it in detail. Still running in though and these may turn out to be quite the poor man's Nautilus indeed.

Very high indeed but my wife is a little dissappointed because she really wanted them in white. I got the silver because white got no stock. She calls them baby speakers because they look a little like babies. Though I think they look more like alien pods where little green men hatch from. Very 1960's scifi dontcha think? Very Happy

Little one-eyed alien with big fat tummies and tiny legs?
They do come in many different colours.
And initially I thought they were B&W because of the driver.
I found out it wasn't when I came across them in a magazine.

It was the yellow woven Kevlar cone right? Well actually if your initial impression were that these things came from B&W, you were on the right track all along. They're not actually made by B&W but the people who made these pods came from B&W.

Some B&W engineers started a company called Blueroom and created these Minipods. Later the right to manufacture these Minipods were sold to Scandyna. To date the pod range have expanded to include small, standard and large minipods, the very cute micropods, subwoofers, amps and ipod docks. Oh, and they also have a teardrop shaped speaker called whatelse but The Drop!

The HiFi version of Monsters Inc.

They do give something different in terms of design compared to others.
The finishing is good and can be a kind of decoration at home.
That's why they will do very well in WAF.

Try Tivoli Audio. Start off with Model Two. Then can buy the CD player and sub.

arcam solo

The solo integrates a 100W amplifier (50 per channel), CD player, FM and DAB radio. The CD player stage borrows from the excellent Arcam CD73T, using the same transport and DAC circuits, while the DAB stage is essentially the Arcam DT-91. This is an impressive heritage, and explains why the units sound so good.

800 pounds new back in 2006

tangent cinque or LG FA series for much cheaper price tag
