Was looking for it and found it in one of the major book-store chain (I think MpH or Popular) but didn't buy it coz it cost RM20.00, just a couple of RM less than the UK version. How could this compete and considering all other 'localized/ Aseanized' magazines such as Top Gear/FHM/Stuff that are selling about RM8 to RM12, I think the publisher should reconsider reducing the price.

BTW, I've been subscribing digital magazines for a couple of years now, Stereophile costs me USD12 for a year subscription compared to RM40 per mag at the local newsagent plus you get to read even before it hits the US news stand Very Happy ..

Hi zeebee,

On the rack price, yes, the UK or US version can be purchased at a higher newsstands rate or any subscription promotions that will cost USD12 for a year subscription.

Perhaps allow us to reiterate the strength and relevance of our local version, which are always conscientiously improving by our team:

a. Interviews with key local industry players

b. Discount vouchers/promotions for readers

c. Local contest valuable giveaways(We’ve given away before several 5-Star Award products such as the Zeppelin, Denon AVR-2310, on-going Zeppelin Mini and to reveal a little, the upcoming contest will be the much awaited Great Samsung 3D Package which we will be giving away a 5-Star reviewed 3D TV and a 3D Blu-ray player!

d. Publishing of reviews earlier then UK edition – example Zeppelin Mini review in our December 2009 Issue

e. Localised directory listings and buyers guide which covers both Singapore and Malaysia directory listings.

If UK or US version is good enough, then why not support the local version and pay lesser? Yes, it is a locally printed magazine but it carries very international contents alongside with the above listed increasing level of local contents. The list price is in the range of imported magazine simply because of its imported contents. If we are contented paying, say, RM28 for the UK or US version, and the consensus is that the local version having its main contents which are almost similar, and we get to pay a lower price(savings of up to RM8 or so), that should account no loss on our part but with some small gains. Furthermore, if subscribed, it’s only about RM14 a copy and that is mighty good savings as compared to RM28 for a copy at almost half the price, not to mention getting a S$60 free gift sponsored by local distributors upon any subscription and get up to 36x bonus chances to winning the Contest valuable prize.

Not forgetting, What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision is a magazine and buying guide, so if readers are buying the magazine to aid them in their shopping, we are very sure that our local directory listings and product prices will assist in great deal. Through this, readers get real savings and definitely value for money.

On the feedback on other magazine’s comparison, we do note that each publication has their core focus and the fan base differs as most content focus is very different. We are not here to displace other publication and as part of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision, we will like to mention that What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision remains the No. 1 Home Entertainment Magazine and Buying Guide. The amount of readership proves its popularity.

We are very glad to hear from you and sincerely, we must say that this magazine/buying guide is here to benefit all. Henceforth, we do appreciate any continual feedback or valuable suggestions. We do take every single suggestion seriously. You can either let us know more of your feedback by emailing to us at suggest@whathifi.asia.

Thank you for your support and happy reading!

Best Regards,
WHF Asia
